Map rebalance! The European map has received a major overhaul. Additionally, we are rolling out further balancing changes for War Bonds.

Most of us have started their journey in Call of War on the European Map, and many great battles have been fought on this all time classic. So what more reason could we need to make some key changes to this timeless battlefield, making sure it can be enjoyed well into the future!

The most striking change you’ll notice is the addition of major Rivers to the map. These create natural chokepoints all over the map, reshuffling the dynamics of troop movements and ideal placement of defensive positions. And even better, the new St Lawrence and Volga Rivers can be sailed by ships, allowing players to penetrate deep into the vast land masses at the edges of the map.
The other major change is the addition of Belarus as an NPC nation. This creates more neutral territory in central Europe. This gives the neighboring countries some much needed breathing room during the start of the map.
Further we changed the territory of the United Kingdom to be less spread out all over the map. For this reason we turned the territories of Bermuda and Melilla into new NPC nations.

We also made some important changes to the balancing of War Bonds. We received a lot of feedback about healing being overtuned, making it too easy to save units on the retreat from ranged attacks. Therefore we’ve increased the cost of healing these units that benefit the most from this tactic:
    • Motorized Infantry
    • Armored Cars
    • Strategic Bombers
    • Tactical Bombers

    • Further we also increased the cost of the Instant Spy Actions “Reveal Local Army” and “Country Information” by 50% to make these actions less efficient.
Finally we also reduced the amount of War Bonds available per gameday on the World at War and Free For All maps. This is a first test to see how a slower accumulation rate impacts gameplay. As always, the changes only apply to maps created after the update.

For a closer look at all the changes please check out the detailed Release Notes and share your feedback with us right here on the Forums and on our Discord Server.

  • Increased the costs of the “Sabotage Building” Spy Action and resolved significant bugs.

We have been very busy collecting your feedback for the new War Bonds, and the message could not have been clearer. The “Sabotage Building” Instant Spy Action is too cheap and was quite the nuisance in games since the release of the War Bonds. Therefore we will be doubling the cost of the action to bring it more in line.
We will continue to monitor the impact of War Bonds, and are already planning more balancing iterations in the near future.

We fixed faulty translations in the trade window, ensuring that all trade offers now display in the correct language. Additionally, we've addressed an issue where players couldn't heal their units when low on Gold, even if they had enough War Bonds available.

  • The new War Bonds have arrived! Launch a new map and check out the exciting new resource that completely changes how Call of War is played!

As we already announced in the news last week, War Bonds are the newest resource added to Call of War. They can be used to unlock special actions that were previously only available with Gold. For a detailed breakdown please refer to the detailed release notes. We are excited to see how you guys will make use of the new War Bonds. And if you have feedback, or simply want to share your experiences please head to our Discord server. Your thoughts will help guide our decisions on future balancing iterations for the War Bonds.

When you split a stack of airplanes in transit, the split unit will no longer teleport back to its airfield. Instead, it will now correctly continue to its target. If the destination is out of range, it will return to base for refueling. And we also fixed the annoying bug that caused new Alliances to be created with 0 ELO points. Now they get the correct value of 1000 ELO.

  • We have some very exciting news to share! Meet Call of War’s newest resource: War Bonds! They will replace almost all functions currently paid for with Gold. This revolutionizes how Call of War is played, so read on to find out all of the details!

War Bonds are a new resource in the game, located in the resource bar at the top of the screen. They accumulate passively over time for free. War Bonds are used for all special actions, such as speed-ups, spy actions, morale boosts, and healing your units. So all players can now enjoy them the same.
Like other resources, War Bonds are tied to each map. So take advantage of your War Bonds to enjoy Call of War to the fullest.

There are some key differences to other resources. War Bonds aren’t produced by provinces. That means they accumulate at the same fixed rate for all players, regardless of how big their nation has grown or what gameday it is. Additionally, War Bonds can not be looted from defeated enemy players. And finally, they are not available on the stock market, or tradeable with other players.

So you might wonder, where does this leave Gold? Going forward Gold is only used to top up resources, including the new War Bonds. And of course you can still use it to unlock premium account features during map creation.

War Bonds are laying a strong foundation for the future of Call of War. They give us opportunities for future iterations and new features.
But most importantly, they level the playing field. War Bonds allow everyone to participate in all functions Call of War offers. This way, everyone experiences the same gameplay.
This also adds a new layer of strategic planning. Will you use them early in the game to keep the pace high and pressure your opponents? Or are you gonna save them for a rainy day, stocking them up for a push later in the game? The choice is yours, and we are excited to see how you’ll use your newly gained options on the battlefield!

War Bonds are going live with the next release on Tuesday, 2024-07-23! They are already available for testing in beta games, so Frontline Pioneers can dust off their entrenching tools and already do some testing.
We have also opened a dedicated channel on our Discord. Head there to discuss the upcoming change or ask any questions that you may have!

That is all for now Generals - we’ll see you on the battlefield!

  • Economy Balance iterations - Nations at war now need to do a trade offer to change relations - planes on the ground no longer automatically flee when attacked by land units

Our last update sparked quite the discussion! We enjoyed the passionate discussion and exchange of ideas, especially over on our Discord server in the dedicated balance-discussion channel. Based on your input we are lowering the cost of constructing Industry buildings, to bolster your countries strained economies. We also heard your feedback on the woes of Infantry and militia, and gave them a slight cost reduction across all levels.

To maintain the integrity of wartime negotiations, we have fixed an issue that allowed players to change to another relation from the Diplomacy menu while at war. Going forward, such changes can only be executed through trade offers, ensuring all diplomatic maneuvers are deliberate and strategic.

We've resolved an issue where grounded planes were making a hasty retreat to the nearest aerodrome when under attack by land units. They will now engage in melee combat as intended. Also if the aerodrome in that province is damaged by the land units, the plane will now turn into a transport truck for the battle.
