I don't think the ability to heal units with resources would reduce gold spending. As long as golding and carding heals is instant, it would still be the superior choice.

Melee units are already punished enough. This just discourages using them even more.

If you want to go for the internet tough-guy "realism" argument, it's also not realistic that ground forces are incapable of disengaging once engaged. It's also not realistic for them to be annihilated from top-down by indirect fire. You really shouldn't try to talk about how war was fought in the period if you don't actually have much knowledge on the subject. The upshot, of course, is that none of that matters. This is a game. Even simulations have abstractions and exceptions.

I would rather have them use more granular sprites for the different upgrades. The commintern interceptor can go from I-153, to YaK 1, to LA-7. Similarly, the Allied interceptor could be something luke Hawker Hurricane, Spitfire, to Tempest. German interceptors can go from 109, 190, to 262. Pan Asian from Zero-sen, Raiden, to the Reppu.

Because the I-153 was a major Soviet fighter craft in 1939. Though, I agree, something like the Yak-3 would be better.

It goes without saying that people throwing hundreds of thousands of gold at their screens to solve problems ruins the experience for everyone except themselves. Denying that is silly.

seriously though the privilege of air and ranged units in comparison to "melee" units absolutely has to be balanced out by SOMETHING.

If units being healed with free resources were subject to a state with a weak armor class, as per my original suggestion, gold/card healing would still be the preferable option.
