  • Freezy, thank you for the explanation. That is quite helpful. Quote from DeathKnyte: “Wow. You really think it's worth going through all that trouble? Try using some Polikarpov I-153's, instead of ground based anti air, and simply shoot down the enemy aircraft. ” I like to have layered defenses. I'm not always online, so I have some passive defense in addition to my active offense. This was simply a hypothetical anyway, to draw out the mechanics question; I'm not likely to have that exact scenar…

  • So Freezy, if I have multiple stacks of 10 units in a 5 measure area, will the potential defensive damage be calculated per stack and allow for, say, 20 units to deal defensive damage, or will the top 10 units picked from amongst all the stacks be the ones counted for potential defensive damage? In other words, is there a way, for example, to place 20 AA units in 2 stacks of 10, but within splash damage radius of each other, and have all 20 do defensive damage, or will it only take 10 of them?

  • Another question on mechanics. If I have a stack of 10 ships, and they have different ranges (let's say 3 battleships, 3 cruisers, 4 destroyers) and I begin shooting at another mixed stack at battleship range. If he then splits his stack and moves in his cruisers to attack my stack separately from his battleship stack, will my cruisers shoot back, or is the cruisers' attack timing synced to and linked with the battleships, even though the cruisers are out of range of the original target that I a…

  • So to be clear, the morale penalty for expansion does not decrease if you stop conquering for a couple of days? There is no cool-down so to speak?

  • Quote from z00mz00m: “The only things wrong with fighters is that they take ground to air damage on patrol. A squadron sent to provide air cover and maintain air superiority in a region does not attack random units and get shot down. At least make it an option. When I send 6 interceptors out on patrol, the default mode should be air cover, only. ” Absolutely. I want to put bombers on patrol at night to protect my troops. But then I want to put fighters on patrol to protect the bombers. But that …

  • Where do you see the ship's name? I name mine but I do not see where it is displayed. I would love it if the names were more prominent.

  • Quote from KingVarchasv: “Instead we should be able to make units go in reserve, where they enter a reserve pool, where they will have 0 upkeep. Then when we need it we could place it back in any of our provinces, this will take one or two hours. Otherwise this idea has been requested by players forever, and this is a good idea. ” I am learning how to use the Forum, and now realize that I can search by subject to see who has already voiced an opinion on this subject. I did not realize at first t…

I do like this in concept, as long as there is a relatively low cap on it. I wouldn't want the bonus to exceed 10% or so. You are correct that this does reward the strategic player and makes solo games easier. It does add an element of realism too. Perhaps you could also add, as a separate bonus, either with Veterancy or in place of it, the option to increase unit production time to give the unit extra training, giving it a bonus, again with a low cap. This would allow units to be more efficient…

  • Question, is there a reason that the carrier does not get more efficient at refueling planes when it is upgraded? Even if it never became as fast as a conventional airfield (perhaps only let it improve to 15 minutes or so) it does seem strange that a higher level carrier never gets more efficient at launching sorties, particularly since real aircraft carriers are not all alike in their turn-around time. Maybe the faster pace is in the fact that it is refueling more planes in that time, but a con…

  • I am fairly confident that the transports have their own HP, because the health of my transport convoys is almost always lower than my units on land, and upgrading the transports in the Research tab increases the labeled HP. As for your offer of air transport, that is an intriguing idea. However, mechanically, you currently don't have to create ship transports, so it would be a deviation to permit air transfer but require building a separate unit. Realism would also require identifying a WWII-er…

  • When a stack attacks or defends against another stack, it calculates the potential damage based on the armor class of the units it is facing, and then uses the 10 units from the stack with the greatest amount of damage against that armor class (factoring in terrain bonuses) to inflict the damage. The other units will not contribute. That means that if you have a stack of, say, 20 light tanks, it will do much more damage to split the stack in 2. If you have a stack of 20, 10 light tanks, 5 infant…

  • It would be great to have both options, but yes, absolutely, you are correct that it would be hugely helpful to have the ability to maintain patrol relative to a fleet rather than just over a single location. That would allow us to have a carrier fleet travel safely at night without an extreme destroyer escort.

  • This is useful as a strategic, conceptual framework. I am wondering if someone would like to update this for 1.5 with regards to resource production investment. Has anyone done the math on how long it would take for the investment to pay itself back if you were to build full Industry on a city with single resource production rate? There are big resource costs for building 5 layers of Industry, and you only get a 100% output bonus from that spot, so it takes a long time (but I'm not sure how long…

  • I actually have the opposite frustration. I am totally annoyed when a big player, like the US in my current game, goes AFK a few days into the game. What effect does this have on the game? A massive serving of 280 points that are poorly defended and up for grabs. The game basically becomes a scramble to cannibalize all the inactive people, which is not even remotely challenging combat, which is much less fun than playing against a real person. In fact, I would support a move to track how often p…

  • I am one of those players that really liked to keep a high K/D ratio. Call me vain, perhaps, but I like it. The issue is that at the start of the game, we are given a bunch of units, many of which I do not want to invest in researching to upgrade. However, as long as they are alive, they are costing me in daily upkeep, which are resources I would like to put elsewhere. I could simply suicide them against an enemy to kill them off, but I would rather not, since that would totally wreck my K/D. Th…

  • I wonder about whether this could be tweaked to make it work. Previous commentators are correct that some units in the real world would be able to fix themselves up to some extent (engineers on ships, mechanics deployed with armor units, medics with infantry) but there is a reason that we have bases behind front lines for big hospitals and mechanics shops, as well as shipyards and docks: these places can do a lot more repair/healing than front-line personnel can do in terms of capacity, speed, a…

  • Personally, I like this system better. I like the idea that the destroyers are now better at being part of a stack (so that the stack does not have to be so crazy heavy on destroyers in order to beat the submarines) but not able to wreck an infinite number on their own. Very helpful, and much appreciated.

  • Thank you for explaining!

  • I am trying to figure out how to maximize the efficiency of my stacks. I understand that the attack and defense values of only 10 units are considered in any single attack. If I have a stack of, say, 15 though, with 3 anti-air, and planes come to attack the stack, will the 10 units selected for the defense values be the ones that will do the highest damage? In other words, does the stack automatically select the 10 units with the greatest efficiency for whatever it is facing, or does it average …

  • I am wondering about using fewer destroyers to defend my carriers. I want to use naval bombers when I am online, but I don't know if they can effectively watch the situation while I am offline. If I leave them on the carriers, and a stack of submarines hit the carriers, would the naval bombers automatically attack because they are in range? Is there any High Command fire setting I could put them to that would make that possible? Or, would I have to put the naval bombers on Patrol over the carrie…
