For the entire 18+ months I have been using in-game aircraft carrier units, there has been a recurring bug regarding the combination and re-combination of aircraft units when they return to their carrier(s) after missions. Namely, that separate wings of aircraft units which have been sent on separate missions will not immediately re-combine with all other wings based on the same carrier(s) once all wings have been fully refueled. This should take no longer than 15 minutes, i.e., the time it takes an aircraft unit to fully refuel on an in-game carrier.
As an example, I presently have four nuclear aircraft carriers (CVN) and six escorting destroyer (DD) squadrons in a single stack, with 36 aircraft squadrons (1 naval bomber, 20 tactical bomber, 15 fighter squadrons) based on those four CVNs. The four CVNs have a combined capacity of 40 aircraft squadrons, so there is plenty of room to accommodate all assigned squadrons.
In the last two hours, I have sent the 20-squadron TB wing, 15-squadron fighter wing, and single naval bomber squadron on multiple separate aerial reconnaissance missions over neutral territory to scout potential enemy forces as I move down a continental coastline. Upon completion of their scouting missions, I returned all wings safely to their moving carriers. However, over an hour after all wings have completed their 15-minute refueling cycles, the aircraft wings continue to display separately, with separate icons and separate unit numbers.
On other occasions, I have seen the same situation continue for 12 or more hours until the fully refueled air wings eventually re-combine into a single wing aboard their carrier(s). This is not a simple display problem that is resolved by reloading the game; the separately displayed air wings can be issued individual commands using either the unit command pop-up menu or by clicking-and-dragging. Nor is this a short-term problem; I have seen this issue recur on numerous occasions in multiple games over a period of 18+ months.
While this is not a fatal error, it can be a major inconvenience when you are trying to re-combine the available aircraft units for a different strike package against new targets. I am reporting this bug so that you are aware of it; please add it to your working list of bugs to be addressed. Thanks.
