    • a "universal" strategy for this game

In short words, massive air planes plus a few light tanks. Why?

Planes has the largest distance to cover, fastest speed to reach, relatively short time to build and significant damage to everything, no matter geography. Light tank has the fastest speed on ground to take unguarded lands after air attack.

Worry about oil consumption? Planes do not cost much more oil than medium and heavy tanks but more advantages than tanks. Yes, oil is a problem for every troops except infantry but when the game starts, some countries always have more oil lands in core province, such as "NORTH SUDAN". Other oil lands rather than the ones in core provinces produce much less oil. That is set by the GAME RULE and the morale is low when it is away from the capital.

Worry about Anti-air units? Yes, they beat planes if you choose regular anti-air, it moves slowly and costed huge population to build. Before it reaches the battlefield, you lost significant population that you cannot keep building more regular anti-air units. If you choose SP anti-air, it moves fast but almost has no attacking strength and consume oil, not a little.

Forget about tanks, you cannot afford the huge cost all kinds of resources. If you can build a lot of tanks, I can build more planes for sure as the cost of resources is less. 100 planes vs 50 tanks, who wins? And you have unguarded lands left for my light tanks, or even militia.

Forget about navy, ocean lands do not count victory.

    • The massive tactical air force plus light tanks "strategy" is relatively easy to defeat once you have a better understanding of game dynamics and the match-ups of certain unit types:

      1. Tactical bombers, especially TBs that are not escorted by fighters, are easily defeated by patrolling fighter wings of your own. The short version: place two or three wings of 5 fighter squadrons each over your ground units targeted by any bombers, and then watch the enemy TBs melt with every attack against your fighter-protected ground units.

      2. Light tanks, once they are shorn of any protective air cover, are easily defeated by a combination of anti-tank (properly supported by other units), tactical bombers, and heavier armor units. Light tanks are particularly vulnerable to high-level tactical air attacks (once the TB offensive values become stronger against armor-class units), and the AA defensive values of light tanks suck.
    • Remember - no matter how much air force you have or how much you bomb a target - as the INFANTRY say (or armor in this game)- "If we ain't there, you don't own it!"

    • This strategy is best suited for the offence is the best defence play type. While this is popular among many players, a well fortified anti-tank and anti-air stack in the mountains or a city causes this strategy to come to a screeching halt. Therefore, you will want something that cannot be shot down like a level +2 missile(preferably level 4, because they bypass fortifications) as a contingency or artillery of your choice reinforcing your tanks.

    • Early on I like the Tank/Bomber strategy. You can roll through inactives quickly if you happen to have some near. If its all humans (good ones) then you need a more balanced strategy. Bombers/Tank Still OK, but better players will stop it cold with some AA and will placed fighters patrols. In my opinion the hardest opponents are the ones using a lot of artillery with AA.
