The seas are alway a dangerous place, but we all have discovered our own counters to the various sub spammers and mass battleship convoys. For the guide, we would like to know everyones favourite way to keep the seas clean. Please answer truthfully, as more inexperienced players will use this information to up their game.

On another note, We have reached the tactics part of the guide. We could use everyone's help, so anyone who wishes to submit a tactic of their own is welcome to below.

    • I voted submarines because they are cheap and effective against unguarded convoys and some enemy navy.

I like to make a "picket line" of subs out in the ocean so I can see units moving towards me, and prepare for them. Sometimes that may mean declaring war and letting my picket line decimate the unguarded single file convoys, and sometimes it means I have a day to prepare for something closer to the coast. This makes subs dual purpose as both eyes and the first line of defense. Behind the sub picket line a few groups of destroyers can cover a lot of territory because of their speed. This is the bulk of my defense strategy.

Regarding offense I don't try and own the entire ocean. I make a naval group tailored to my enemies naval strength and escort my land forces from one continent to another. Always a few carriers to get air support over my landing zones.

Now if my enemy builds a big navy and goes around hunting for my subs I don't spend a lot of time replacing them. I adapt my tactics to suit my enemy.

    • I've been disappointed by the performance of naval bombers versus ships, due the fact that all ships have AA, and the bombers lose out before doing much damage.

Naval bombers seem to be good for two things, 1) spotting, and 2) anti-submarine.

Destroyers are good against subs, but they can be taken out by subs, too, if outnumbered or the subs are higher tech level.

Battleships are probably the best at taking out other surface ships (and bombarding land units).

Cruisers are all-rounders but not particularly good at anything.

Higher level naval bombers perform much better against naval units than low level naval bombers. They also perform much better in multiple stacks of five squadrons each, and you can add other types of aircraft units to their stacks as damage soakers. Even with high level naval bombers, however, you are going to take more damage and/or squadron losses when compared to your typical tactical bomber actions against ground units. There are two reasons for that: (1) the typical naval unit has more hit points than the typical ground unit, making them harder to kill; and (2) the typical surface naval unit (DD, CC, BB, CV) has more anti-aircraft strength points than the typical ground unit, meaning that they are going to inflict more defensive damage on attacking aircraft.

      3. Naval bombers are excellent at sinking unescorted convoys.
      4. A stack of naval bombers is good at sinking non-cruiser capital ships in a small stack.
