I wonder what the average age of Call of War players is. (I'm 45.) I wonder this in part because of how RUDE some players can be. For example: we're playing a game with no alliances. That means only one person can win. So inevitably people are going to turn on one another and all truces are temporary. Calling your opponent all kinds of names seems like an odd choice. It's particularly strange when high-ranking players do this. Perhaps it's not just age but the fact that we don't see each other's faces. I play regularly in face-to-face gaming groups, where bad manners aren't welcome.
The main reason to play a strategy game, particularly one that takes a month or more, is to discuss decisions after action. To compliment daring attacks. (I learned a lot from how a skilled player did a fine combined arms attack into my territory, and told him so.) To comment on diplomatic choices. For me that's far more interesting than clicking buttons.
It's well to remember Vorlon's signature line, which applies far better to players of computer games than to the men who faced the gas and the machine guns on the Western Front:
War is a game that is played with a smile. If you can't smile, grin. If you can't grin keep out of the way til you can. - Winston Churchill
Happy gaming! Athenaios
