    • Cross Device, WebGL and Balancing Changes

      Dear generals,

For some time already Call of War is available cross-platform and connects players not only from all over the world, but also from all kinds of different devices. To support our cross device presence even further we have been working on some improvements for the community, which we want to present to you today.

      • We added two new achievements. Play on mobile and PC (on 3/20/90 days) in order to retrieve our latest addition to the achievements.
      • The statistics page now shows a mobile vs. PC ratio of each player’s playtime on the different devices.
      • We reworked the icons for active and inactive players in the diplomacy list and on the map. Also the diplomacy list shows on which device the user was active within the game.

Additionally the balancing changes announced on August 14 will go live today. Running games will be affected by these changes. We also reorganized and renamed the unit type names in the unit details panel for all factions, including elite units, for more historical accuracy and exchanged the unit portrait pictures in the same panel to match their new type names.

Furthermore frontline pioneers will be able to test our new map rendering technology WebGL on beta starting today. If you experience any problems, please let us know in the forum or open a bug report ticket and add ‘WebGL’ in your subject title.

All other bug fixes and improvements can be found below:

      • We fixed some issues with the alliance leader promotion not working properly on mobile.
      • Sometimes players were not able to join suggested games, we fixed that.
      • Some events resulted into multiple push notification appearing on mobile. This should not happen anymore.
      • We fixed another bug regarding map victory achievements.

    • That's ok. I noticed when I was playing a COW game.

    • Please don't spam when voicing feedback.

We included this column and also some of the other changes to spread awareness that you can play your game rounds from both mobile and desktop, and that there are other players who do that. This will lead to more people trying out the other version and hopefully playing on both, which will help with activity in games and player retention. It is also useful for receiving better support depending on the device you are using.

The column actually shows the devices used in the last 2 weeks, so it is not an accurate representation of what you are using right now at this moment, to not give too much info away. If you don't like only seeing one of the two symbols there, you can always try out the other version once in a while to have both :)

Who are you messing! The pc users will know their enemies are mobile, which is more "unstable" and exploit it!

    • For any beta player having trouble in the WebGL Beta games:
      1. Make sure that no other open browser tabs or programs on your device slow down your game. Try if the beta game runs better if you close all other tabs and programs.
      2. Update your system's graphics driver! Especially older PCs still run very old graphics drivers. Updating them should already solve most issues.
      3. If you still experience any problems after these steps, please submit a bug report and include your system information.

      General notes:
      - this version is not final and still contains some missing visual features or bugs, which will be fixed soon
      - Performance, loading times and RAM consumption are still being tweaked
      - old 260p beta test maps are not yet supported and may appear buggy

Please, this is about updates, no random people spamming random comments!

By the way, it doesn't seem to be working on mine, the webGL thing. I think it's because of lag, but when I try zoom in and out, it's kinda like the old one. What is happening?

    • Oh. I was in ones made before 29th August. Thanks for the reminder.

    • I still don't really get it. Like we have to turn it on?

    • It is automatically turned on unless you turned it off in the game settings. You can check that, there is a new button in the game menu in the bottom right.

To see WebGL you have to join a frontline pioneer's (FP) game. You can check if the game is frontline pioneer if it has the frontline pioneer flag when you open the game details (info button in the game tile in your game list). But do be able to join these games, you have to have frontline pioneer rights, which are basically a group of beta testers. So not every player can test WebGL yet.

You will notice immediately if your game runs with WebGL, as the water looks very different and much more high quality, also stepless zooming and scrolling, different lighting etc.

      --------------
By the way, with WebGL we will also introduce some nice gameplay improvements, such as:

      - no more fake vision range around your provinces, which have lead to a false sense of security
      - pathing lines of armies keep moving towards their target destination also when not selected, so you can always immediately see where armies are headed and which path belongs to which army
      - army path previews colored in the country color, for easier recognition which units belong to which country
      - vision range is shown for airplanes now while in flight. They had vision before but you did not see how far as the vision circle previously was not rendered.
      - even higher zoom out, you can now see the whole map even on the biggest maps
      - also closer zoom in, if you really want to micromanage
      - obviously stepless zooming and smooth scrolling
