The mechanics of this game continue to frustrate me. I had my artillery placed behind my other troops including a tank and infantry, a couple of minutes travel behind, and it was still attacked by the enemy. How far back does your artillery have to be, to be safe from a ground assault?

If I remember correctly your two groups should be minimally 15km appart in order not to be both engaged in battle. Bare in mind different units have different speeds also terrain type affects said speed of units and of course the ownership of the province also affects speed so be very careful when converting 15km distance in a unit of time

Thank you for the information. I'll be more careful next time.

Till you get a feel for it, it is better to error on the side of keeping a greater distance behind.

The specific close combat range is 5 km for all units as far as I know.
However as stated above, more is better.War is a game that is played with a smile. If you can't smile, grin. If you can't grin keep out of the way til you can. - Winston Churchill
