    • Guide to Nuclear Bombers and Nuclear Rockets

Nuclear Bombers and Nuclear Rockets are the single most powerful unit in the game. Dealing huge damage to stacks, buildings and ships, they will blow away most anything. While hard to manufacture, cost a fortune and are only one use; they can turn the tide of battle in your favor or doom within seconds.

BE WARNED: Nuclear Rockets and missiles destroy any troops in their path. That includes the target, your troops and your allies troops. Make sure to stay clear of the blast radius. (50km)

      Build Requirements
The Nuclear Rocket and the Nuclear Bomber both require the same basic build requirements. Both cost 10,000 rare each, and both cost $30,000 to produce.

      Research

The research trains for the nuclear bomber and nuclear missile are slightly different. Both require the nuclear reactor and nuclear bomb research. But then it splits.

Nuclear Bomber - If done correctly, research for a nuclear bomber can be done by day 28.

      • Level 3 Nuclear Reactor Research
      • Level 3 Strategic Bomber Research
      • Level 1 Nuclear Bomb Research
      • Level 1 Nuclear Bomber
Continued research for the nuclear bomber is important. Level 1 nuclear bombers, while powerful, are not powerful enough to take out massive stacks. These numbers are only estimates, it depends on what type of units are in the stack, home core defense bonus, etc.
      1. Level 1- 15 Units
      2. Level 2- 30 Units
      3. Level 3- <60 units
Nuclear Rocket - The earliest you can research Nuclear Rockets is day 40.

      • Level 4 Nuclear Reactor Research
      • Level 4 Rocket
      • Level 3 Nuclear Bomb

      Attacking with a Nuclear Bomber

Nuclear bombers have pro's and cons. While using an airport system, you can use nuclear bombers to bring immense power to a trouble spot: but you cannot group fighters with the planes to protect it, and the bomber can be shot down. But there are many ways to use the bomber while making sure it reaches the target safely.

      • Surprise Attack- Using these to start a war is one of the best ways to not get shot down.
      • Attack the defending planes first- Clear out some of the defenders before you strike. A nuclear bomber will get through some flak, but not a lot.
      • Attack a nearby province or unit- The nuclear bomber has a wide area in which damage is dealt, a 50 km radius. If you can hit a province or unit that is right beside the desired target, you can destroy both targets without having to deal with the AA fire from the larger units.
Defending Against a Nuclear Bomber Due to the nature of a nuclear bomber, being unable to be escorted by fighters and having only 30 HP, it can be shot down easily when attacking directly.
      • Fighters- Using 5-7 fighters, you can usually take down 1 nuclear bomber in 1 shot. Also, you can patrol these over a stack, unit, or city you wish to protect.
      • Anti-Air- These units are a must if any of your enemies have aircraft. You would need 5-7 of Anti-aircraft, leveled up, to defeat one nuclear bomber without it being able to detonate. For maximum AA fire, try using 5 anti-air units and 5 SP Anti-air in one stack.
      • Keep out of Range- While simple, this is the only sure way not to get hit with a nuclear bomber.
Attacking with a Nuclear Missile- Once launched, a nuclear rocket is unstoppable. Regardless of AA fire, the missile will reach its target. This weapon really has no downfalls, other than transportation by airplane convoy.

      • Just launch!- Once you have selected a target, launch the missile. Once you launch, you cannot recall it, so make sure of your target beforehand.
      • Make sure your Target Can't move- Consider sending some units to attack the target you wish to attack, so they cannot escape from the blast.
Defending against a Nuclear Missile Because of the nature of the nuclear Rocket, there is only two strategies that work.
      • RUN! - Once a nuclear missile is fired, you cannot stop it. The only strategy is to get out of the way ASAP. Using forced march is more than justified in this occasion. Fortifications will not protect you, rockets ignore fortifications.
On further consideration, from staff and other members, being able to outrun a nuclear rocket is highly unlikely. You would practically need every speed enhancing bonus there is in the game. But, why not try?
      • Destroy it on the ground- The only other method is to destroy it on the ground. Because of it's low health, attacking planes or ground forces will have no trouble getting rid of a nuclear missile.

    • Atomic weapons have a blast radius of 50km. The only units which can escape that completely are planes. It is possible that ground based units that would have been on the edge of the blast can escape.

    • I know that a lot of player are a fan of nuclear weapons, much of them are beginners. I am not a fan at all and i'll explain why.

      - The research of nuclear takes long and costs a lot: note that most games end in 40 days, I've never played a game that lasted longer then 40 days, not even a 100 player map. Conclusion: there's a high probability that you won't be able to use them.

      - Nuclear bomber level 1 are very weak and not worth the investment. If you want to make it interesting to get return of investment they need to be at level 3. You are not sure that your nuclear bomber will arrive because they can get shot down easily by interceptors or Anti Air. losing your bomber after such an investment of time and resources is a huge loss.

      - You will make yourself a target: when your neighbors and enemies see that you have a nuclear reactor and airbases level 3 they will attack you. Don't be surprised when every player teams up on you.

      - While you waste time and research on nuclear technology you can't research in the infantry, armor and air branch. In the meantime i'll have heavily invested in those ground and air units. My units will be stronger and my army larger and I will destroy your inferior army with my superior forces you before you ever have the chance to use nuclear.

      - The only interesting and powerful nuclear attack weapon is the rocket but that you can only research after day 40, again it is very uncertain that you will still be alive at day 40 to use it. You will either be destroyed or the victory will be won with your coalition.

    • I love nukes. I dont use the bomber that much, but against large AI countries the rocket is a lifesaver. They have a lot of units, and the only way to fight them is WMD. And before you start dissing me for being uneconomic, keep in mind that the money you waste on 1 rocket, you would waste it on other units to take out the massive stacks of the AI. Very fun unit for one who knows how to use it.
    • In my experience in this game it's much more efficient to build and
use swarms of level 4 rockets instead of nuclear weapons.

You don't need nukes to fight an AI, because you know how an AI operates. AI don't have an air force and don't know how to use it. When you patrol overhead they don't counterattack they just stay in place. If you attack with planes they will march to your airbase so don't attack but patrol. Usually the AI have mostly the older troops so you can easily beat them with mechanized infantry, medium tanks and SP artillery. When you attack an AI with artillery they will attack you, depending on the attacking troop type use mechanized infantry or medium tanks to protect your artillery. Sometimes AI produce a lot of tank destroyers so make sure you have motorized infantry as well. All these troops combined will give you a quick victory over a powerful AI with minimal losses.

    • I am personally a fan of nukes, though I usually don't need them.
I've used both the rocket and the bomber to great success, against low level players and high level players alike.
It takes some clever strategy, to be sure, but it's not impossible.
The cost is enormous, but you are researching rockets anyways, so why not go to the next level?

Have to agree with nearly everything you say.
Plenty of games stretch past day 40 for me, you have to take what you can get for coalition members.
I always send spies to get rid of nuclear reactors, but you can use spies to try and protect them.
While nukes do play a role, you can't neglect other things. Once the airforce is maxed out, with 1 or 2 other select high level units, I'm set for the game.

True because when you use nukes on AI it is like a waste. Use them on more hostile enemies.

A thing to remember with nukes is that they destroy/damage everything in range. your enemy, your allies and your own troops. (or they did last time I fired one (oops)).

I mainly build nukes to fulfill missions and because setting one off is fun! That being said, I only really build them in arms race events these days, or if I have mountains of resources and lots of free time that cannot be put to use on better research projects.

If only this was posted much, much earlier (I literally killed off a 12-18 unit flotilla of mine with my own nuke).

      RIP.
A tactic I sometimes use with nuclear bombers, is to bomb a unit beside the stack I'm actually targeting. It works well when you want to destroy some of a countries troops, but not actually go to war. The game just counts it as "splash damage".
