There is also Poland. In diferent period of times Poles controled Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth + Hungary or Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth + Russia. That wasn't for long but still counts i think

The Brits controlled almost 34 million kilometers of land. This is the biggest empire that has ever existed. A famous saying was that "The sun never sets on the British Empire" because they had so much land that the sun was always shining on some part of British territory.

British had the largest empire ever, that is fact at about 33,700,000 Km. Mongols had an slightly smaller empire of 33,000,000. But they get second place soo.

In my opinion , the Roman Empire was one of the biggest contributors to the history of mankind, Roman Empire invented the Romance languages ,the weapons, inventions , created the Leisure .

The Roman Empire laid foundations of what we know today as Europe.
