I have encountered this very peculiar and extremely annoying bug. It happens that i have a stack of units positioned somewhere (usually far from enemy lines) and i go offline but when i get back online they are just no longer there. The first time this happened to me i let it go as a miscalculation on my part but now it has happened thrice by now in two different historic world war maps. Also the second time this happened i checked the newspaper the notifications tab but there was no sign of them being lost. Also there isn't a probability of a rocket attack as non of my enemies have researched them so far. As well as that my resource production rate also remained the same hence proving that they had just merely disappeared plz do solve this problem and yea i have submitted a bug report.
So where did they go?

Most of the time in these cases we find that you gave those units a stray order, and they are floating around in the ocean somewhere or in another unlikely place. Just an accidental grab of the unit when trying to scroll the map can cause this.War is a game that is played with a smile. If you can't smile, grin. .. so, as already described in another thread, which was also about apparently inexplicable loss of troops,
ultimately there's only this one possibility what happened ..

Try this:
Disable the "enhanced" GUI.
Click on one of your units.
Use the arrow keys to tab thru your units one at a time. -
