No. 6 The CoW release or “How CoW was delayed so many years” (2015-04-17)

Tobias Kringe, Founder and Managing Director and back in 2015 Lead Engine Developer for Call of War

“When Call of War went online back in 2015 Bytro still only had one major title: Supremacy 1914. At that point Supremacy 1914 had already been running since 2009. In those 6 years Call of War - or in general a WW2 themed game - was on our mind all the time. But there were doubts that needed to be addressed first.

We thought that we would cannibalize our main game if we adopt our gameplay from a WW1 setting to a WW2 setting. We thought nobody would want to play two games which only differ in their similar setting. Instead of one major title we would have two mediocre ones. This discussion went on over the years and we concentrated on other projects, like a medieval fantasy setting, a casual game and even a simple mobile version of S1914. Nothing really worked out for us.
The discussion about a potential WW2 setting re-occurred several times in those years, but the same arguments against the move came up again and again.

Until at one point of time we finally decided to give it a shot. The arguments were still there but we also all really wanted to do a WW2 game!
Sebastian came up with a set of features which were really different compared to our existing WW1 game, and we started working on it. Only 8 months later, we had two games - and both were bigger than Supremacy 1914 when we first started.”
