Why did this happen? (1.5)

Alright so in a current game, I have share map and access to country A. I send a fighter to land in an airfield in country A. Country A is at war with country B (AI). I am not.

I come back and see, that country B has exploited a gap in the frontline of country A and has taken the airfield my fighter is stationed on. Country A also has a fighter there. Both are caught on the ground. Country B is fighting the fighter of Country A (as a truck). But not mine as we are not at war.

I decide to relocate my fighter and gives it order to move out (as truck). BAM! Immediatley I am at war with as well country B as A.

I don't understand how this happened, but would sure like to avoid it in the future.

Any ideas?

your relation with B is peace, right? I think if you give it an order the server sees you are on a nation whom you don’t have RoW with so it sets you two in war...that’s my best guess

Conquerer74 is correct. If your unit is on the province center, and you give a move or attack order, your relation will be set to war.

Objects at rest remain at rest. An order is needed to initiate combat.

Your permission to be there had been revoked, due to the province changing hands, and by my guess your ally revived your share map as well.

As you did not have permission to be there in the form of Right of Way of higher your plane was grounded as a convoy.

So you were technically trespassing. Your passport had been revoked.

Any order such as move or attack initiated the standard war/combat which occurs whenever a non friendly unit or province is encountered by moving across it.

Now if your ally did not change your relation then this was an accidental war between you. This does occur in a few situations. For complete protection against accidental wars we recommend you enter into a coalition. Coalition bonds cannot be broken by unfortunate friendly fire accidents.

I understand why the movement in the territory of country B may trigger war against country B.
But country A had not changed his relation to me. The map was still green and my move happened in the province of country B (the conquered airfield). The only thing player A was involved with was an airplane truck that was under attack. Could I really have attacked that with my own truck just by trying to move? There was no warning.

Conquerer and Doctor: both of you overlook that the result was not a 2-way, but 3-war war. That is the odd part.

I'm with Doc on this.

Whether malicious or accidental, one of you attacked the other either through direct action, or as a result of diplomatic stance having been changed while these units occupied the same space.

That would be obvious. But it would take an insane case of coincidence if the other player declared war on me exactly when I moved my truck. And in fact he did not because he was off-line. Noone changed relation to anyone.

So it would require that me moving my truck somehow was an attack on the truck of the player I had share map and peace with. That normally never happens. I've shared territory with friendly nations a hundred times before. Never before did a move trigger hostilities.

The only new thing that I can think of here, is that the two sides were only represented by a truck. And one side was under attack by a third nation.

You should be able to see in the newspaper whether you were attacked by Country A, or Country A was attacked by you. This would clarify a lot of things about the scenario.

Well, you seem pretty confident that all of the likely causes are not the cause, so I'll try to recreate the scenario and see if I can make this happen. I'll be interested to truly find the cause. This is an obscure one.

Rockets and direct attacks by planes can cause a war declaration on allied provinces.

However an airplane in convoy form doesn’t have the ability to capture land, so that actually shouldn’t happen in this case.

That is an odd case indeed, I am waiting for Jacques to reproduce it so we can analyze this further.

What units attacked the airbase, and how many were there? Also, were there any other defenders in the airbase province?

1 infantry from country C (AI controlled) took the province, thereby destroying the airbase. No defenders AFAIR. 1 fighter from country B and 1 from A turned into trucks. Infantry attacked truck B. No attack on my truck untill I tried to move it.

Almost, Yes. Now that you ask, I'm not 100% if it changed owner before or after the fighters were defeated. But I'm pretty sure it was before. It's been a while already. I didn't take a screenie because I thought it was some game mechanisms I just didn't know. I never suspected it could be a bug.
