US: The US has a really high resource production each day. Although, it starts with one of the weakest armies in game. However, you could build up massive armies due to the overpowered production capabilities that it possesses. Also, the Allied Doctrine helps a lot with faster production speeds. Also, US has a really powerful navy at the beginning, which will protect you from most initial threats towards the two coasts at the beginning. The political situation is really stable at the beginning because the only two neighbors Canada and Mexico are unlikely to attack you at the beginning. They're more likely to become allies or friends with you rather than enemies.

USSR: Similar to US it has a massive industrial and resource output. Unlike, the US it actually starts with a decent army of around 50 units or more. However, the tech has to be upgraded before the USSR could really try to defeat countries like Germany or Japan. The one shortcoming is that it is in the range of powerful countries like Germany and Japan.

Germany: It has a decent resource output and a decent industrial capability. However, it has the strongest army and strongest Air Force at the beginning of the game. However, one drawback is that the diplomatic situation is really dangerous for Germany and it can get attacked from multiple sides if one is not careful.

France: It has the second strongest army at the beginning of the game and a strong navy. It has a good resource output and good industrial capabilities. However, the political situation of France can also become disastrous. Most of the times, at least two neighbors will attack you at some point in the game.

Italy: It has a decent army at the beginning, but its Air Force is almost non-exsistant. However, it has a strong navy with many battleships. Also, its industrial capabilities and resource production are pretty strong.

Nationalist China: It starts with a crap military in general. However, with careful development and research it can become one of the strongest nations in game. In most games Japan won't be confident enough to invade you in the beginning. Even if they do you could simply withdraw your troops and ambush Japanese troops until the army is weakened. Also, it has many cities and plenty of resource production which makes it a capable industrial power.

Let me know if I missed anything or if any of my statements are inaccurate.
    • - The US: it is a power house, it starts with a small army and a big navy that eats your oil. Give the US time to develop and it's unbeatable. However i've beaten the US with Canada by attacking at day one by performing a motorized infantry spam. The US most important cities and resource provinces are in the North East. The US is vunerable to an early attack from two sides. If Canada and Mexico ally themselves then it's RIP with the US.

      - France: It starts with a good large army but it's a vunerable country surrounded at all sides. There's a high risk of ending up at war with Germany in the early game while you have the UK, Spain and Italy lurking over your shoulder. Fasten your seatbelts if Germany is allied with Italy, knowingly that also spain has axis doctrine.

      - USSR: Starts with mainly infantry branch and is therefore vunerable to an attack of Germany who runs high on tanks. The country is huge and almost undefendable. If Russia is at war with a larger nation like Germany or often underestimated Japan then you can be sure that all those small Asian countries will start eating you away slowly. The many Asian countries that all fear Russia combined with both the chance of ending up in war with multiple European and Asian countries at the same time makes it quite challenging.

      - Germany: Has the largest army in the game but it wears down it's economy which is quite difficult to handle. Germany is always the cible of the roleplaying dudes. It's pretty probable that you will end up at war with France, Poland, USSR, US and the UK. That's quite a dangerous cocktail.

My suggestion for good but often underestimated games would be:

      - Japan: It's cores divided up in islands makes it almost impossible to invade if the player knows what he's doing. Some rockets, RRG and navy make it impregnable. You start with a good foothold in Asia which promotes easy expansion. In your cores you focus on economy, navy and airforce while on the mainland you focus on military production buildings.

      - Brazil: It easily dominates South America and only this fact makes it a very interesting partner for the US.

      - UK: It's easy to defend with a couple of naval bombers and navy and you don't end up so fast in the European war. With it's many islands it's not very tempting to attack. Attack the UK and you'll be at war the whole game long. The UK can easily build up slowly and pick the winning side in Europe or create a foothold on the mainland.

      - Australia: Australia almost never get's attacked. You can get enough points to win the game on the mainland so why even bother. Australia can take down all the islands around it quite easily gathering a lot of points an building a solid economy. After that it can create a foothold in Asia and become a very attractive partner for other players.

    • Italy is best country on 25er historical map for average player.

It has fleet wich can handle french or GB's separate fleets. It has third most powerfull Land strikeforces in europe, but lesser economical shortage than france, germany or GB. It has valueble research level at begin.

Italy can easy build any coalition, due to risk of other countries to each other.

While strongest World Powers could have troubles to find really good and help full allie. USA under simultanous attack of Canada and Mexico in first three days is undefendeble for average players.

Same for USSR, with difference, USSR can find coalition even more quickly than Italy, the question is, is this coalition good enough or not. Japan without coalition in asia is toothless tiger on soil warfare.
Japan with coalition can be unstopable in asia, how ever, by same online time and same skills, best taktik for Japan and USSR peace after Fall of Vladivostok. Wich mean hurt for SU but not full death. War till the end is deadly for Japan. But SU had to secure most important West territory first.

Back to Italy. Italy rules on mediterrain area, and following in Afrika. With step by step economy boost it can reach TOP Powers.

Italy could be played even by new players with good online times. Germany is most difficult countries in game. Even average players can not handle it right.

USA are too slow in first 3 days. But after that it can be superior Italy. With same taktics.

Japan is too weak without coalition on soil. Can be outnumbered by economical value of national China. Has too high upkeep from day 1.

SU is too easy for pro's and impossible for common players without high online times.
GB is kind of Japan. Need time for build up, but can be deadly. Easy too defend, but can be outnumbered by economical values of European Nations. Has highest upkeep on day 1.
France is something like mixshake of germany with italy or GB. Not very much better geografical position than germanis, weakener fleet than GB, higher upkeep than Italy. Second most difficult countries after Germany.

    • Japan too weak? I'm just playing a game 1.5 with it and is like a Ferrari. Manchukuo erased in 8 hours, second day. Just make a few tanks and 6 or 7 motorized infantry, 5 or 6 planes and run all over the map. The superior naval power can face USA with no problem and the 20% speed bonus is the true key.
      PD. Excuse my english ;)
Si no tienes posibilidades de vencer, es el momento de atacar.
    • USA: Safe start, ally with Canada, then build stacks of 2 LT + 3 Motorized Infantry. You are able to invade Mexico early on and make your way through Central America and eventually South America. Backstab Canada if you have the opportunity to do so. The AI's in Central America use Anti-Air + Anti-Tank + Militia stacks, so the normal LT Rush strategy won't work too well here.

Brazil: Same strategy as USA, but instead just invade Argentina who only has 4 urbans. Then you can take your time rolling over South America and make your way up to Central America where you can either ally with USA or go to war against him.

UK: Interesting playstyle as your urbans are scattered across the map. This can lead to you losing a lot of land due to AI's since it is hard to defend your colonies. You will find yourself fighting against Africa, Asia, and Europe all at once. I recommend avoiding UK unless you are skilled at the game and have experience with UK in other modes.

France: At the start of the game, you want to build up your fortifications near Belgium. If Germany chooses to invade you, he will likely go through Belgium. Also, build up artillery along the Maginot Line so you can overpower Germany's artillery. For safety, ally with Spain and UK so you can have a better chance against Germany.

Poland: Do not try Poland, it dies before the first day ends.

Germany: Probably the most fun country but the hardest to get. You start with a large army and can have all of Poland and France by day 2. It is likely that you will be able to gain control of Europe in a few days if you play smart.

Japan: Kind of boring as it takes a long time to embark/disembark to Asia. You can either go for the Asia Netherlands and Australia, USA, or China. If you go for Australia, you will be able to defeat it but will be racing against USA's Philippines. Australia serves no strategic benefit so only go for it to get the oil and points. If you decide to fight USA, you will win at first, but USA's insane economy and manpower will eventually be able to push you back until you are forced to surrender.

USSR: Big country with low level units. You should ally with Germany and Japan so you can focus on southern Europe and Middle East. It is so big that it is boring to play as and your urban provinces are scattered. Best part about USSR is that a lot of people think you are a big threat to them even though they could easily defeat you.

Argentina has 5 urbans, some Poland's actually ally with either Germany or the USSR and Brazil gets crushed early game by Argentina if the Argentina player is a good player and knows how to play Argentina though so some of these facts you put up are... questionable to say the least.
      Poland-Point-proof

Backstabbing, really? Why make allies with Canada anyway, he has only one way of expansion and it's south trough the US. Canada is an underestimated country that can easily take out the US if it attacks at day 1. So if you play with the US you want to deal with that threat as soon as possible before he backstabs you instead.

Do you have any strategy that doesn't involve backstabbing?

Nobody want's to attack the UK because you are in war with it for like forever. Why would you be at war with AI? If you don't go rogue on other players by attacking without declaring war, backstabbing and so on then you will have a low popularity and AI will attack you indeed. However if you fight one war at the time and declare trade embargo and war first then you shouldn't have any problem with ending up at war with AI. UK is a great country, has a very good navy and with all it's colonies you can build up an army anywhere on the map and attack where least expected.

You could just take Belgium and build a fort in Namur and Antwerp? You could even push trough to the Netherlands if you can. The Netherlands are the achillesheel of Germany. From there you can part in all directions and easily take Essen. Or maybe ally with Germany and become the European powerhouse.

Boring? It's the best country on the map. It's navy it's bigger than that of the US. The speed bonus is very dangerous. You can produce your land units in your mainland colonies and in your core provinces you produce your navy and airforce which can fly to the mainland without any dissembarkation times. Planes are fast, aspecialy those of Japan. Go for a large airfoce and you will anihilate any army in your range.

    • I kind of enjoy playing Tibet right now. OK, you only get 7 militia and an infantry for starting army, but you have 5 cities and you're not close to any of the superpowers so you can expand in relative peace early game, even though the terrain is very slow; but all those mountains will make India and China also think twice before attacking you early on. Since most players drop out anyway in the first week, you'll most likely find yourself alone on a map with countries like Turkey, Argentina, Spain and the like which start out a bit stronger, but you should have caught up with them by now, leading to an interesting scenario later on.
When the fake daddies are curtailed, we have failed. When their roller coaster tolerance is obliterated, their education funds are taken by Kazakhstani phishers, and their candy bars distributed between the Botswana youth gangs, we have succeeded.
      - BIG DADDY.
    • Can second Tibet; I did a pseudo-journal for a Pacifist Tibet game a few months ago, and it was honestly the most fun I've had in an Asia game in a long time. Most of the country is mountains and forest, meaning that the Pan-Asia Militia, Artillery, and AT are just plain OP.

With about a week of mixed infrastructure development, infantry/ordinance research, and careful Militia/AT/AA production, one can easily turn Tibet into a fortress and develop every resource province until mid-game, at which point you'll be more than a match for any early- to mid-game Asian country, especially any given one of your neighbors.

no it can be easily taken by japanese forces after taking china.
    • Im very surprised that no one matioed turkey. geo position of the country is perfect. all neighbour countries can B tageted - turkey is obviously the strongest power n te area, and with good plan, step by step, it can exspending in middle east and on the balcans. can choose 2 build relatively small, but very efective naval strike force, which can B cruical in latter phase of game, when big bombs come into play.
the only weak spot is border with USSR, but those areas (only two provinces), R on he mountain terrain, and, if needed, defence can be concentrate, and make possible attack, if nothing else, make it extrimelly exspensive adventure
    • Japan is, in my opinion, strongest country in HWW map. If you know how to play navy and how to play pan asian doctrine, boom you are OP. Kill China erly, Manchucuo is like free territory, Duch Indonesia boom free wps, USA is no match for you eather. USSR is too mutch focused on europe soo you are good.
Just be active and know how to play pan asia and navy, you are winner on 1st day.

I second this, but I think they're far from OP. They start the game with a better navy than the US, but the US economy will even the score before long; just like in real life. I'd say they are the easiest to solo win with and probably just the best country overall for an aggressive, expansion type player.

However, if you like the play the economic game Japan isn't the best choice. They require early expansion to feed their growth, otherwise the Soviets and US will eventually take them off the board. The United States is a great choice if you want to play the long game. United Kingdom and Germany are also great choices and can be very strong when played well. All of these countries will go first in just about every round of HWW. I find the Soviet Union to be the weakest of the majors.

For those of you saying Tibet and Turkey can't be serious. I mean, maybe it's fun, but a halfway competent player in any of the majors is going to ruin you by day 6.

I don't think you should push into Central America or South America at all. The VP density is not good and you have to declare so many wars everyone will declare war on you. If you want to play the US poorly, follow this guys advice.

If you just wait a while and build up your economy, someone will start gobbling up VPs for you. Then you just bring your fresh, high-tech army, navy and air force to eat them. Maybe it's Germany, maybe it's Japan, maybe it's British India. It doesn't matter who, let them do the work then just sweep in and kill them. Did the US invade every neighbor in WWII? You're doing it wrong.

Valide argument buth still think that Japan is very good,i am talking abouth regular public games. And 1 out of 10 times you will see good USA and evem tho it have big potencial to win game, you will see it rerly. In public games Japan have most succes because it is very fun and ceep you playing. Saddly HWW games need something to be done abouth them because they are games with alot inactive players.

Funny that you say this. you strike me as a highly ecoonomic player and your most recent playthrough was as japan.

I honestly want to play a game as the USA just to try out the OP economy. I feel as if a Japan-USA-Germany alliance would win maps with ease.

Oh, sure. Your economy will be insane if you expand like crazy and take every capital from Chengdu to Berlin. I did also invest in industry a lot at the beginning of that game. It still took me a while to get to 260k tons and I was there on day 6 with the US and hadn't expanded beyond the Caribbean.
