    • Day 15 to day 16 - Miracle on the Mahanadi

From his Cathedral in Panama, the Savior contemplated the situation he had achieved for the mestizos in only 15 days.

The army had grown very significantly, from day 12 to day 15 the 19 units army & navy had become 42 units strong.

The largest part of the army & navy was still between Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, extinguishing the last flames of resistance :

It represented 13 units in total :

      - A powerful navy (no less than 4 battleships, escorted by one destroyer in anti-submarine duty),

      - A powerful strike force (4 SP artillery, 4 motorized infantry,

Another powerful force (11) was located in Central America. The Savior was worried due to the war between the USA and Mexico, as the imperialists were making a powerful advance :

The navy was smaller(1 destroyer, 3 battleships) but the land force more capable : 5 motorized infantry, 1 light tank, to which one should add another motorized infantry detached as "observators" among the American force.

This force would strike Mexico from the South, seizing without risk and losses the city of Merida, but also Acapuelco, which was defended by mostly artillery and air force :

The "observers" turned out to be an elite force, though it was almost eliminated in the capture of Acapuelco.

The last large force was the Japanese expedition force. Initially only 8 units strong, it had been reinforced by 4 units (two anti-tanks battery, one regiment of unmotived conscripted infantry and one good regiment of fanatic Christian militia) had been trained locally, bringing the total to 14, though the militia would stay in Japan to maintain order and occupy the few territories that still did not accept to be Christianized.

The 6 missing units were 1 motorized infantry and two self propelled-artillery just built in the islands, the Panama submarine, and two destroyers sent in long range recon : one along the coast of Brazil, one in the Straights of Gibraltar.

Which brings us to the topic of the diplomatic situation.

Only 9 countries still aspired to become something on the world stage, and really only 8 would play a role. They organized along two coalition.

      - The Most Christian coalition of Australia, Netherlands, Canada and the Dominican Republic.

Within this coalition, Australia was both the most powerful country and the most able leader. Australia was fully industrialized, its army and fleet was up to date and it was spearheading the Liberation of China. In addition, communication with the Dominican Republic was perfect.

Canada had finally industrialized at the Dominican injonction, and its army was sizeable and efficiently liberating its share of China. On the other hand, communication was not optimal, and the army not well modernized.

Finally, Netherlands was the least industrialized, and both its army and navy was dated - though the navy was extremely large with more than 20 battleships. Netherlands had destroyed the largest part of the Japanese navy, but its participation on land in the fight against the Japanese was nominal - some would say so was the participation of the Dominican Republican but COME ON IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT THE ISLAND WAS SO POORLY DEFENDED.

At the moment, these power controlled territorial Asia this way :

      - Opposed to this Righteous coalition, there was the Godless or Paganistic Coalition, composed of :

      - British India, which seemed the most powerful country, though not it seems led by the most competent leader

      - Persia, a competent leader

      - Romania, who controlled the largest part of Eastern Europe (Soviet Union excepted, also a competent leader,

      - Turkey, which seemed the weakest of the four on all accounts.

As for China, well there was great news for Christendom :

Of course, this did not earn them the respect of the other Christian countries, who claimed it was not the correct brand of Christians and more shockingly, that "religion should not get in the way of politics". Oh well.

As the daily newspaper was received in the middle of day 15, the Savior could be proud :

His country was the third largest ! The newspaper from the day before had indicated that the economy was still lagging behind though. At least it was above Netherlands, but 30% below the two least industrialized heathens.

By the end of the 15th, China had almost been totally liberated :

Interestingly, Canadian and Indian forces had clashed, and the two countries were at war. Always very Canadian, the Savior was very dismayed to learn that the Canadians had proposed peace to the Indians, but very satisfied to learn that the Indians did not even answer to this proposal.

The Dominican Navy and Expedition force had moved into the Indian ocean convinced it could surprise the heathens from India by landing between the Arabic peninsula and the Southern tip of India. The expedition force was not strong, so it had to land on a weak spot to be any effective.

Day 16 opened on Ecuador fully liberated. The only "hostile" areas were there as a buffer against the next Grand Project of the Savior, the rechristianisation of Brasil :

The rest of the world had not changed much during the night :

During the day, Dutch patrols along the coast of India had brought some mediocre news : the coastline (presumably all of it) was patrolled by naval bombers, making a surprise landing unlikely.

Though Canada brought through this screen with ease with its cruisers. Remember the Chekhov cruiser principle : if a cruiser is mentioned day 1, it is going to be useful later in the story :).

This had allowed the Dominican fleet to approach undetected... with some luck the landing fleet could sneakily pass between the coast line and the plane patrol areas which was further at sea...

And then the big news arrived !

it was the Miracle on the Mahanadi river. At the news of the approach of a Dominican force, the cowardly Indian leadership had fled, leaving their country in disarray and vulnerable to an otherwise weak Dominican army.

      The gift kept giving :

Persia was now at war with India. What seems to have happened (according to Persia) was that India decided not to let Persia keep its free passage, as it was the third most hated nation in the world. As there were Persian troops in India, it meant immediate war.

It was now clear that God wanted the invasion of India to happen, and the Dominicans immediately landed :

A commando force would try to seize the Capitol of India as soon as possible, while Calculta would be taken by some regular infantry and guns. Finally, a motorized infantry would capture the areas "cleared" by the battle fleet, exactly like in Colombia and Venezuela

There were yet more good news in the newspaper :

The now 44 units strong Dominican army was not the underdog it once was - it was in the same order of magnitude as the Turkish or Indian army, and 60% of the Romanian army. More interestingly, the Australian army and navy towered above any competitor.

Sadly, the Dominican army would not grow much stronger in the short term : the country had ran totally out of manpower day 15. At +330 manpower an hour, it could build at best 5 or 6 "modern" units a day (the "slots" were used to modernize the fleet). An extremely expensive investment in recruiting stations managed to push that number to +430 by the end of day 16, but there was little hope to go much further than +450 manpower an hour (7-8 units a day).

      1. extending its dominions on more people - India and Brazil,

      2. immediate stop of the increase of power of the Navy - it was well enough at this point,

      3. re-specializing the production toward what brought the most power (and sturdiness) by manpower, said otherwise heavy tanks and tank destroyers. Those two were immediately researched, enough tank factories had been captured in Japan and in Venezuela that the whole concept of "tank" and how to destroy them could be reverse engineered.
