      A few months ago, I left Call of War due to a graphics update which removed canvas. I was not alone in my feelings of frustration, and was one of the most die-hard canvas supporters. I thought mods would never listen, the graphics could never improve, so why play?

      I was wrong.

      Recently I came back after Larry is god lol lol asked me to join a private game. To my surprise, the devs HAD listened! Just to name one change, provinces now smoke instead of BLARE light when morale is low. Centre dots are fixed, other improvements have come around.

      So here I am, and I apologise for all I said about the devs not listening, about the damage done to the game. Do I still prefer canvas? HELL YEAH. Do I want to stay and help improve WebGL, and enjoy the game instead of rage-leaving? OF COURSE!. Canvas isn’t coming back, even though I want it to. I know many of you share frustrations, but give Bytro a chance, try WebGL out and help improve it. Basically, this is a formal apology to Bytro labs, and a “counter” to the #RestoreCanvas so people can share improvements ideas. So, instead of fighting with #RestoreCanvas and #KeepWebGL, lets just #IMPROVECallofWar!

      And this thread isn’t just about WebGL. The devs listen, but there need to be voices to be heard! So I ask you to reply with any improvement ideas (Please don’t propose anything major like supply lines, lets improve the game slowly and steadily)!

      Please pin this thread, so that Call of War may continue to adapt, overcome and improve!



      Just my ideas for now:

      Issues with WebGL

      • Units graphic change makes them look plastic.
      • Names of provinces in canvas were visible but it didn’t obscure gameplay since they were small yet clear. WebGL only has Urban names and those are far too fat and obscuring.
      • Planes: A- In canvas when you attacked or patrolled with Plane the “line” was straight and nice, in WebGL its arched like Artillery attack. B- Planes zoom around , and that’s kind of misleading/hard on the eyes.
      • You know when you click on unit and “stretch” it to lead it somewhere? In canvas the line was nice, black and thin, when u released it changed to country’s colors. In WebGL its stripy, shiny, thick and at its end it has a Google Maps Location sign for some reason whereas Canvas just had a cross. Please improve this “motion line”
      • All ranged units, when you hover on them have a red “bombard” line coming out “bombing” anything in range even own provinces whereas no actual bombardment is taking place, please fix this major issue.
      • Colours are shiny, plasticky and genuinely give me a headache, please make them simpler.
      • In canvas if u were at war with a nation “barbed wire” or some sort of fence appeared at border. In webgl you just get red line. Its not clear, especially if u are USSR or Japan.
      • Sometimes planes on carriers are not visible.
      • Every city has a 10 VP sign.
      • WebGL has fat, ugly stripes for occupied provinces.
      • No option to turn off armies.
      • The newspaper map is riddled with flames obscuring view, maybe tone them down or have an option to turn off/on?
      • No fog of war which makes it rather confusing.
      • Allied units become fully green and enemy fully red. I suggest you make it like canvas so it only has a faint glow of red and green.





      Revamp of HWW



      I was looking at Historic, and I think there should be another refix. Many things are not right, and I think there is potential for expansion. I will go on nation by nation.



      United Kingdom-



      1. New Urban(s)= Glasgow

      2. Navy Research to be slightly reduced (The British navy was large but not that modern. I don’t understand why British battleships in the game are more researched than German battleships, for god’s sake the Bismarck sunk Britian’s most famous ship with a single shell. So I think either britian’s research should be reduced or Other nation’s increased)



      France-

      • Name Change- France –> French Third Republic
      • Removal of starting Tank Destroyer (The French im pretty sure didn’t have any significant number of TDs in service in 1939. In fact im pretty sure TDs were invented/mass produced in 1940)
      Italy-

      • Name Change- Italy-> Kingdom of Italy or Italian Empire
      • Removal of Tank Destroyer
      • Enlargening of Naval Forces. The Italian Navy was quite large, but outdated. So research could be reduced and numbers increased.Specially low level subs.
      • New Urban(s)- Palermo. Italy has no core cities below Naples, and this is annoying as well as untrue. Palermo was a proper city, and it would be nice to have it in Historic.
      German Empire-



      • Removal of rocket AND its research. Germany had NO rockets in 1939, and had barely researched them. It is not historically accurate for it to start with one AND with research.
      • Adding 1 more paratrooper AND its research. Germans pretty much invented paratrooping, so I think they deserve to have it researched. Also Paratroopers were used in invasion of Poland so I think another paratrooper would be accurate.
      • Increasing research on Navy. I don’t understand why Japan and UK, even France and Italy I think, have equal or superior naval research to Germany. The German Navy was by far the most modern navy. It was small, but it could easily destroy the French and Italian navies combined. So I think its research should be increased dramatically.
      • A few more light tanks.
      • New Urban(s)- Dresden
      Poland-

      • Removal of tank destroyers, replaced by other units, maybe light tanks? each.



      Sweden-

      • Doctrine change- Allies-> Axis. People have said stuff like in 1944 Sweden was allied, well this map is 1939 and Sweden was VERY much axis.
      Soviet Union-

      • New Urban(s)- Smolensk and Chita
      • Line of weak fortification along Euro Border. The Stalin Line was still up in 1939.
      • More infantry units.
      • Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, all Persia in HWW for some reason, to become Soviet cores since all three were Soviet Socialist Republics.
      • Removal of Paratrooper unit at beginning.





      Persia-

      • New Urban- Mashhad.
      • 1 more infantry unit and 1 AC
      • POSSIBLE namechange because I think officially at the time Persia was Iran, and that’s the local name
      Japan-

      • Name change- Japan -> Empire of Japan.
      • Slightly more industrialised.
      • Larger navy. LARGER NAVY Japanese Imperial Navy was BEEG, like BEEG
      • More planes, i.e. Naval Bombers and fighters
      • More infantry forces.
      • No research done on Light Tanks. Japan didn’t own enough light tanks (At least what was considered INTERNATIONALLY as light tanks) in 1939 to really have them or their research.
      • In ownerships of Manchuria. OK I know I have to argue my case. The thing is, I don’t get it. In HWW Phillipines is American territory, even though it was only technically under military protection (I get why its American tho). The Japanese had a MUCH, MUCH firmer grip on Manchuria than the Americans did on the Phillipines, so there are two options, either Japan gets Manchuria or America loses Phillipines. To give Manchuria would remove a playable nation, but it could be replaced by Finland or something.
      • Owns slightly larger chunk of China, I mean literally 3 rurals.
      • New Urban, Yokohama, it was a major city at the time and to this day.



      Communist China-

      • Owns more land (but in cut off chunks like in real life), the communist Chinese controlled quite a bit of territory.
      Australia-

      • Australia’s territory in New Guinea to become occupied, I don’t get why its core. It was an outright Australian COLONY.
      • Tasmania to become core, it was part of the Federation.
      • New Urbans- Adelaide and Darwin

      You are saying that german battleships are better, which is already the case. They deal more damage and have more HP

      From a historical view, this is a good point, but from a game stand point, this devalues Japan as a world power.

    • That's an opinion. Would you say Persia has any chance when its historically accurate army is compared with Germany? No, but you can still win. Plus, two historically inaccurate TDs wont even dent the Germans.
