Shared map will increase popularity more and trade embargo will decrease popularity HOWEVER prior to declaring war, you should give a trade embargo as this lowers the amount of popularity you lose if you were to just straight out attack or declare war.

In a recent game I had another opponent sneak attacking everyone and was consistently on top of the dreaded nations list. He also sneak attacked me. He was rather large so bringing him down took the rest of the game. During which time, I didn’t go to war with any other nations, but my popularity kept going down.
Can you think of any reason my popularity would go down when I was at war with the most unpopular nation?

one more question though. About trading. How can you tell who you’re trading with? Does trading affect you popularity broadly or just with the nation you traded with?

I'd also like to add that before you declare war, you should not only embargo but embargo 24 hours before. This can even further decrease the penalty.

True, you can do that with an AI. However I wouldn't do it with an active player as he would receive a 24h heads up that you will attack him.Donk2.0 wrote:

Yes, that is true. Also, make sure to give RoW to all ai controlled player nations once they go inactive, that will also boost your popularity.BMfox wrote:
