Recently a nation has declared war on me in World at War. This is annyoing, as I don't have any reason to enter a war in the Americas.

I am located in Australia (Queensland to be exact) and he in America (Ontario, with a large empire spanning all of Canada and Alaska, and). I have a large empire with 470 vs his 330 VP's, with the entirety of Australia, New Zealand, and Melanesia, bases at Hawaii and other locations in the Pacific. I also have much of India and Pakistan.
It is day 11 of the game.

I have a very large navy (likely considerably larger than his), but most are deployed and will not be able to arrive for 1-3 days. His may not arrive for that long either though. Most of my field army is in Pakistan as I didn't see much threat, although I have a sizeable army in Australia mostly composed of anti-tank, tank destroyer, militia, mechanised infantry, and armoured cars.
I have lvl.3 submarine reasearch, which I plan to use to counter landing craft.

He is a known gold user, and has allegedly "spent a decent amount". So presumably large but unsustainable army. Most is likely army rather than navy, as he has mostly conquered all of Canada and has no overseas colonies.
I have a powerful but not necessarily trustworthy ally in Goias, who with his friend South Argentina control most of South America. He is mostly my ally because of a shared enemy. I also have loyal allies in Papua New Guinea and Borneo.

What are some good strategies I can use?

Also if it's you reading this, Ontario, then you're welcome to.

    • Depends on what you have invested in since the beginning.

If you have a high level of food and steel, and/or have invested in air, naval bombers are good to patrol your coast. They are good at their job, and very good at redeployment, to counter multiple threats. If you have focused goods and oil, and/or have heavily invested in naval units, focus on and produce cruisers and submarines. Don't bother with battleships, they will take too long to produce (however, you are Allies doctrine, so I guess if you want you could. Wouldn't recommend though.) I'm assuming that since you say Ontario is a gold user, they will use either all battleships or all subs, so investing in destroyers isn't bad either. I feel like they probably declared war to either take over your Pacific islands or since they see you as a threat. Be aware that Hawaii and the other islands might be take over before you have a chance to respond.

If Ontario manages to get a foothold, make sure it is not a city, because if they do, they will just gold up a strong defence. Don't worry too much about them taking rural provinces, they won't do much unless they produce resources, just don't let Ontario touch any cores. Station your troops at coastal cities, and keep ranged units (naval or otherwise) to ward off any battleships or cruisers. Note that battleships excel at coastal bombardment, so station some subs nearby incase the battleships are unescorted. Make artillery (I hope you went SP Artillery, because of their Allied boost), place meatshield units in front of them (anti-tanks, tank destroyers, militia, and armoured cars), and bomb any troops that have landed. If still in convoy form, use naval bombers. Get Papua and Borneo to help as well, convince them to send some units to garrison some of your provinces. Tell them to be cautious as well, since they might be invaded as well if you are in the same coalition. Hold a defence until at least a portion of your field army can reach the Americas.

Biggest thing, I advise caution since he is a gold user. He can blow up your industries if he has the brains (and the money), so try and negotiate a ceasefire. Give him some concessions if necessary. Don't wait too long to take him out as well, since time is his biggest advantage.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Hope this info helps :D

I have invested heavily in naval, specifically large numbers of submarines, plus plenty carriers and battleships for the India campaign (I am using Allies and have around 20-30 up-to-date capital ships of each kind so need no more). I have lvl.3 industry in all cores and lvl.4 in all food and oil provinces. I have more than enough oil and steel, but am continually short on food and rely on Madagascan imports. I have plenty of naval bombers, and have invested heavily in air.
I know that Ontario is a gold user, as I've been spying on their diplomacy. He has lvl.3 destroyers and lvl.2 battleships, but I believe most are deployed in the Atlantic and he does not control the Panama Canal.

What do you think of a submarine picket between New Guinea and New Zealand? That would also prevent a base near my country and would stop convoys.

Considering that I was spying with a submarine, I expect it's the latter. He hasn't colonised any islands or overseas territories, and doesn't seem to have much power projection. That said, for all I know he might well have an invasion force waiting already. And I'm sure he wouldn't object to a few islands, which is why I'm putting artillery on them.
3 out of 5 core and most of my Australian and all New Zealand cities are coastal. I've fortified my entire coast and am spamming infantry and anti-tank, and getting armoured cars and tank destroyers. I have SP arty in abundance in my colonies and am building more in cores presently. I have a lot of naval bombers too, and can screen for both subs and convoys; battleships will be vulnerable I expect.

Well, I'm trying to convince him to a negotiated peace. Although seizing British Columbia may prove helpful in that. Biggest problem is getting them safely across the Pacific.

Well if I can't win the war I can still wreck his wallet. If it's achievement-earned gold, he has a very short supply.

By "spy" do you mean using spies, or units such as submarines?

He means using military sabotage spies in empty rurals to get an "all armies revealed".

    • Thanks mate.
Actually the war is over with negotiated peace including limitations on power projection, swapping some territories, etc.
