    • Realistic WW2 Game # 4 Invite

You are invited to play 1939 Call of War games with us. This post is in the Role Playing section as it is frequented by players that are involved and care about realism, for the 1939 start game.

      GOALS & RULES:
      1. REALISTIC WW2 PLAY.
      2. CORRECT & FAIR SIDES.
      3. SERIOUSNESS.
      4. CORRECT ALLIANCES.
      5. NO CHEESE!
      6. APPROPRIATE START.
      7. PERMANANCY.
      8. ADVICE/ SHARING/ TEACHING.

      EXPLANATION OF GOALS & RULES:
      1. REALISTIC WW2 PLAY. Not an exact recreation of WW2, but following realistic possibilities from the 1939 start onwards.
-The ALLIES or Neutrals may not attack Neutrals unless to defend them from the AXIS or Soviets.
-Germany & the Soviets are initially allied.
-The U.S.A. is initially a Neutral and a strict Isolationist.
      -Italy starts as a Neutral.
-France may not attack Germany proper until after the Phony War.
      2. CORRECT ALLIANCES & COUNTRY SPECIFICS.
-ALLIES: U.K. + France. France & U.K are allied and should immediately share maps.
-AXIS: Initially Germany. Italy and Yugoslavia will join later.
-USSR. The Soviets sent communist troops to the Spanish Civil War, therefore Spain may do the same and send volunteers to Russia and not be officially at war with the USSR nor the ALLIES. Sweden may defend Finland against the USSR and again, not be at war with the Soviets.
Before the start of the game the Soviets and the Germans will have an agreement (Molotov-Ribbentrop) over the division of Poland and the Baltic States. Afterwards the Soviets and the Germans are officially allied.
The USSR must wait until the summer of 1941 to attack the AXIS (this is day 6 [day 21 by the research chart days]).
The Soviets are an eventual ALLIED side player. Enemies: Historically Finland (possibly Romania & Turkey?). Attacking Sweden, Norway, Bulgaria, etc., would make them an ENEMY of the ALLIES.
-U.S.A. The U.S. becomes ALLIED end of day 7 (Dec.11, 1941), then may land troops at 06:00 game (3 month ocean voyage to eastern hemisphere). The U.S. is restricted to pre-war navy of 1 active battleship and 3 mothballed/ inactive battleships. Not until the summer of 1941 (day 7) may the U.S. put their troops west of Iceland.
-Italy. Italy is a Neutral in 1939. The western ALLIES may not declare war on Italy unless Italy declares war on Greece, Portugal or Poland.
-Yugoslavia Neutral and is substituted for AXIS Romania. There are 1,224,691 Romanian soldiers that are strangely absent from CoW. If the Soviets declare war that activates Yugoslavia as an AXIS player, otherwise Yugo is activated (and can be in Russia) when after Germany AXIS attacks Russia.
-Pro-AXIS Spain. Activated upon the capture of Egypt, Levant & Cyprus (not counting Malta) & there is a CLEAR AXIS vs the British- talk to the game moderator.
-Pro-AXIS Turkey. May not attack any countries until activated. Activated upon the capture of ALL capture of British territory in Egypt, Levant and Cyprus. The Turkish owned Bosporus is CLOSED to all traffic!
      -Strictly neutral Sweden.
-Vichy France. If set-up by the AXIS, a set amount of the French forces, (called ‘Vichy’ France) will become an AXIS ally (a German Protectorate). The western ALLIES may attack the ‘neutral’ Vichy France. For specifics about a proposed Vichy, message the game moderator.
-Portugal is an ALLIED member. Any attacks upon them is an attack on the ALLIES.
      3. SERIOUSNESS. Sadly, players often quit CoW. Hopefully players here will remain in games because they’ll show serious intent. Indicate your interest in reply posts or message me in CoW. We will post the countries taken and available for the next game in reply post here below.
      4. FAIR. These games should be low gold usage games. Some people WILL spend gold, however most are not here to win just by outspending others.
      5. NO CHEESE! Acceptable ‘right of ways’ in our games are:
AXIS- Finland, Sweden (limited), Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria (not Spain).
ALLIES- Belgium, Holland, Norway, Portugal, Denmark, Finland (ALLIES for defense vs. Russia ONLY). Sweden- Germany (to play Hungary/ Slovakia), Finland for defense vs. Russian ONLY.
      6. APPROPRIATE START:
-U.K. can, and should immediately take Canada (1.6 million citizens in military on the ALLIED side), Iceland upon fall of Copenhagen. Aspa gives
-U.S.A. may take Cuba asap (an ALLIED member in 1941).
-Slovakia & Hungary. Hungary declared war against the Soviets on 27 June 1941 and had a the 209,000-man-strong Second Army & the Slovakians 2 divisions. Both fought the USSR as reluctant AXIS members. Both should be played by either Germany or the Swedish player, as both in CoW are neutrals and NOT allied with the AXIS.
      7. PERMANANCY. We are trying to create a base of players that will have fun from game to game. We’re trying to get a core of nice, ‘normal,’ serious players that care about a historical game.
      8. ADVICE/ SHARING/ TEACHING. We will always be glad to share CoW game advice, share our (limited) knowledge of game mechanics, and teach basic strategies to help create a fair & balanced gaming environment.

      Rules:
-NO ROCKETS. Rockets were a terror weapon and are very over-valued in most games. They did minor industrial damage & virtually no troops were killed by them. Researching them for jets is ok. We are allowing a few German rockets to operate, but only against empty cities.
-The only countries that are allowed to use nuclear bombers is the U.S.A. and Germany (others 1952 & 1953). Germany is limited to lvl 1 Nuclear Bombers.
-No nukes at enemies that are engaged in combat (collateral damage).
-No Nuclear subs or BBs. These are cold war era weapons (1950 +).
-No personal insults please. Hatred of, and comments about one’s enemy is ok.
-Please don’t curse in the Newspaper.
-Player’s using dirty usernames will not be allowed.

      REMINDERS:
      -NO ROCKETS.
-You will be very welcome to our games. We will treat you with respect and honor.
-Your opponents will often be active and will easily defeat you if you are not.
-If you are defeated and if the victor desires that arrangement, you may continue the game as a conquered minor. Details to be arranged by the conqueror at that point. The German Protectorate of Vichy is 1 example of that.
      - WE WILL RESTART a new game if the game is glitiching/ unplayable by anyone, players do not show up, drop, are very inactive, are uncooperative or under very strange circumstances.
-If a player wishes to surrender please make it clear in the Newspaper.
Please message me for next-game start times and a password. All games will be 10 player, free choice, 1939 games titled ‘AXIS vs ALLIES.’

    • This all sounds awesome, yet how does it work in this game? I've Roleplayed a lot in Supremacy before I decided to leave due to the community being too landgrabby and not enough into the RP.

You can't change flags or names from what I've seen, correct?

I'd love to play Nationalist Spain, however..
    • Hi Squeecky,
Thanks for your interest. In reply- no you can't change flags; maybe some day there will be an editor & so forth, until then, it's countries like Sweden having to play Hungary/Slovakia. But the Swedish research list pretty much mirrors the Hungarian/Slovaks except for fighters & AAA.
As far as Spain goes, historically they're very restricted. I.e. almost no money, and very low resources otherwise. Officially in early 1939 the Civil war is still going on, and their country is wrecked. As with other Minors they can not make their own troops, other than militia. Spain, as well as Yugo, Sweden, Hungary & the like could only buy equipment between wars, and just make the lame militia during WW2. Rough, but realistic. Also Franco did NOT wish to get into WW2, and the only way he would have is if the AXIS had a very clear-cut advantage. Franco was no dummy. Otherwise he'd just be placating Hitler so as not to get run over (Hitler threatened that at 1 point).
In our games Spain only comes in as an AXIS minor ally if Egypt is taken AND there is some big naval advantage by the AXIS, or a Sea-Lion is going off successfully, or there is a 6-1 advantage in the air over England during the Battle of Britian.
So... we could still use a Yugoslavian player if you want. It's a bit restricted like Spain but there's plenty of action on the nasty ole' Russian front. Later they can make other units- Tank Destroyers for example. And they can purchase some units from Germany.
Let me know my good man, we just started this early evening. :)
    • Sir Squeeky- it would seem that 'john pete1' is playing Sweden/Hungary/Slovakia, although he has not checked in. If playing Spain is fun for you, you're in.
Some things about the 'Pro-AXIS' Spain:
      1. The Spanish were angry at Russia for sending troops to fight in the Spanish Civil War. Therefore Franco sent 45,482 troops to Fight in Russia. In the CoW game, that's about 1 Corps (unit) of troops.
'On July 13, 1941, the first train left Madrid for Grafenwöhr, Bavariafor a further five weeks of training. There they became the Heer's 250th Inf. Div,' to include 4 infantry regiments (later 3 regiments).
Supported by 1 artilleryregiment (inherent). Spain had 1 assault battalion (300-800 soldiers), mainly sub-machine gun armed. Later, due to casualties, this was disbanded.
      2. The Spanish sent 1 Blue Squadron(Escuadrillas Azules) (Bf 109sandFW 190s, was credited with 156 Soviet aircraft kills).
So, the total units that Spain sent to Russia is approximately 1 Corps & perhaps 1 other support unit + 1 Fighter in Call of War terms. Yuk <X Spain sent 45,000- about 1/35th of what Germany had. By comparison in 1939 the German Army had 1,500,000 soldiers, in 1940 2.5 million, June 1941 around 3 million(including 200,000 from its allies). Germany has 55 starting units, excluding navies & aircraft.
Playing Spain might be a bit boring. They enter the war IF Egypt falls and IF the AXIS have a very clear-cut advantage over the U.K., by sinking 6 U.K. BBs, having a 6-1 aircraft advantage in the Battle of Britian or by taking 8 territories in a Sea-Lion invasion of Britain.
      3. Spain has a very basic, backwards WW1 style military. So in a 'real' 1939 scenario, they could make all the militia they wanted, but no other troops. They could not research any advancements, other than just a few advancements throughout the 1940s.
      4. Spain was an extremely war-torn country. They should probably start with about $25K and very low resources.

Playing Yugoslavia (when Germany attacks Russia), as a fully active AXIS partner might be much more fun. ^^ They'll have TONS of troops; they have their starting troops + new militia to send to the front. They're a bit restricted, but have options and can really make a difference. We're using them in lieu of Romania.
Let me know what you wish to do sir Squeeky, you'll be a welcomed player. Either way I'll send the password via a ' CoW Community', 'Message.' There are good, active players in this game that will play it to a logical end. It will be fun and a real challenge.

    • i never knew sweden had so much to RP about
and I know Spain does to, like with not allowing German troops go into Spanish lands to kill off Portugal and the British land which I can't spell to save my life. and with pretty much backing the allies by 1943.

Can't wait to see it all : )
How many regert electing the current US president, and if not, please, tell me why you havent yet, id love to here you, hopefully smart answer.
    • Mayhaps I can join in as Yugoslavia? Also, since it must be "activated" can it still produce units up until then?
"A knight cannot save the world. They call certain methods of fighting good and others evil, acting as if there were some nobility to the battlefield."

"Honor? Glory? There's no point in speaking to a killer who indulges in such nonsense."

"It's a crime we call victory, paid for by the pain of the defeated"
    • Also, maybe the capture of Malta and Gibraltar contribute to Spain? Historically, they served as the ultimate goal of Italy, being "The Bars of the Mediterranean" set to them by the British. And without them, Britain was essentially out of the Mediterranean with no friendly bases at all, and being unable to pool resources from their global empire

    • Hi 'Dude,' (lol)
Thanks for your interest in the game. And yes, you would be a welcome addition to the game sir. Btw, you are very much needed as a French Player if you want to jump right in the game. Let me know :)
      In Reply:
-Mayhaps I can join in as Yugoslavia? Yes of course. They'll be 'activated' when Germany attacks the USSR.
      - "...can it still produce units up until then?" That's a difficult question. They can make militia 'till the cows come home.' But as for regular units, we're setting a limit on what they can produce. We've boiled it down to producing regular infantry in Belgrad, but only militia otherwise. Like other 'minors' they pretty much bought their wartime equipment from other nations.
-Your comment "Also, maybe the capture of Malta and Gibraltar contribute to Spain?" Those are valid concerns sir 'Dude.' An interesting set of counter arguments are that:
      1. Franco said something to the effect of the AXIS needing to take Cairo & Alexandria (to join the AXIS).
      2. Franco's followers believe that Franco thought that the cancellation of Sea Lion made the Caudillo circumspect of joining the AXIS.
      3. Also Franco thought that AXIS victories were slowing down (therefore the need for the AXIS to win the Battle of Britain or a huge naval battle [i.e. 6x destroyed U.K. battleships).
Do note that he wanted to join the AXIS in 1940, but we are choosing to force the Germans to be too cocky & refuse his offer- also because of his steep/ outrageous demands. He wanted TONS of food & materials for 'roads & railways.' [$, oil & steel]
As far as Gibralter goes, I don't think that the AXIS (& Franco) knew of the tiny islands real importance.
Don't get me wrong... these are all good thougths mr. Dude.
    • Alright, I'll be all good as France

    • ACtually, I don't have the gold necessary for the artillery creation, sorry

    • And thanks for volunteering to be France :!: There are a couple of things about them, as we're tying to stay in a historical vein with our AXIS vs ALLIES #4 game.
      France:
      1. Will probably become Vichy France, if the French suffer a majority of about 9 defeating factors in the Battle of France (if Germany offers the Vichy Option). Then they become a loose AXIS member, a German Protectorate.
      2. Can not all-out attack the Germans, even though we/ they knew that they were rather weak on the Siegfried line. France just lost a generation of 'the flowering of their youth,' and were just not willing to make all out attacks like in WW1.
    • Just post upon my forum wall, I have a different name on CoW and have had finicky experiences with the message system
