As for ALL members of your coalition going inactive... I suggest you pick better allies next game. Find an alliance, play with some team mates who won't bail on you.

AI's stay in your alliance to prevent them from turning on you and attacking your core (after you have expanded and moved units away from starting area).

Just my opinion but I like the change. Assuming the coalition leader is active, they can decide who stays in coalition. If its a large country thats gone inactive, you don't want them automatically removed, they can and will attack you if AI takes over. Its also a litte more historically realistic.

If the alliance leader goes inactive, then the other members cannot accept other active people in the coalition.
Then everyone has to leave the alliance and join another one whoch wastes a lot of time.
