      Because the “White Death” would sound lame.
      That’s tuberculosis. I’m not even kidding, that’s what they called it. TB was a horrible disease, like smallpox and plague of past and cancer of today. Still persists in some places. Not as deadly as the Black Death but the White Death was scary.

      If you wanted to know I believe it was called the whole death because it made its victims look pale. Not a nice thing.
