    • South Africa Playthrough

Greetings Comrades! Yesterday I joined a HWW as South Africa, so I'm making a playthrough of it.

South Africa has a pretty poor starting army. At the start of the game, it has just ten units, which is worse than even Persia. However its situation amongst pretty demilitiarised colonial areas gives it an advantage. As such, in the early game, I plan to invade Portuguese and Belgian colonies. I have forged a friendly relationship with Britain, but I'm planning to split Britain's African territories with British Egypt, as Britain will most likely send troops to deal with Egypt as it is geographically closer to the lion's share of Britain's army, while I close in on Britain's troops in Egypt and gain control of most of Africa.

      Anyways, research.

I have focused on Militia due to SA's lack of resources and respectable military. However, I have also researched SP Artillery and Mechanised Infantry, as well as SP Anti Air.

Industry has also been a heavy priority. Level Three Industry has been built in Windhoek, Capetown, Port Elizabeth and Gaborone, while Level Four Industry is being constructed in Pretoria. The only other city is Durban, which currently only has Level One Industry, but I will upgrade it when I get more resources.

In terms of specialisation, Windhoek will be used to produce Ordnance, Cape Town for Aircraft, Port Elizabeth for Tanks, and Pretoria for Infantry. Durban will be used for the Navy, and I imagine that Gaborone will be used for Tanks due to my insatiable desire for Armoured Units.

So, in conclusion, I am preparing for an invasion for Portuguese colonies before moving North into the Congo and then backstabbing Britain with Egypt.

      Ok bye!

    • Already a backstab planned. Good for you. How long do you intend for your alliance with British Egypt to last?

As long as it takes to take Britain's African territory, at which point Britain will invade Egypt instead of me (because Egypt is closer) and I'll take the Egyptian land.

    • IIRC British Egypt and the British Empire are not the same.

Dont really agree with OP. Played RSA a number of times in HWW. First time too cautious over the various colonies. Took them out Portugal, then Belgium, then France, finally Britain. Came 2nd.

Next time I started on GB. A bit quicker and won. The third time was the only time GB colonies defended by a GB player. But he cheated, which was reported, so I left.

What was the cheat? Same doctrine but getting day 8 forces on day 3. Cmon.
    • Right, back to this!

Sorry for the hiatus in updates. I have had a very busy couple of days.

We are now midway through day four, and while my last account was written at the start of day one, not an awful lot has happened since then.

      Here's my progress so far:

As you can see, the Portuguese colonies of Angola and Mozambique have almost completely fallen. This gives me a clear route up into the Belgian Congo, from which I can attack the inactive French colonies.

Unfortunately, my backstab on Britain will not work, as, uh.....

So that was the end of that idea.

But all hope is not lost! I do genuinely believe that I can take all of Africa in a reasonable amount of time.

Level Five industry is currently being built in Pretoria, while most other cities (apart from the newly-conquered Luanda and Nampula, as well as Durban in my cores, which currently has level two industry) have at least level three industry, with most enjoying level four industry.

The reason I talk about industry is because:
      a) I mean it's Call Of War, industry is vital in any game
      b) Because industry will be particularly vital in this game, due to this absolute travesty of a resource bar:

(I know it's not actually that bad. But I like being over-dramatic.)

On top of that, the military has been steadily increasing. I am yet to build a naval base due to lack of resources and prioritising industry, but my land and air units have accumulated somewhat, as I now have 37 units, compared to the 10 that I started with. The only change in my army production is that I have produced one mechanised infantry in Pretoria, but I have decided that it will be the only one of its kind for a while, as mech inf is too expensive to realistically produce at this time in the game.

As it stands, I am currently the world's 20th biggest power in terms of my military with 1% of the world's military power, South Africa is the 15th biggest economy, and I also place 18th in the standings of the game so far.

      Ok bye!

    • T it isn't a bad one being RSA, as I said before in my 3rd game the GB guy quite rightly sussed it and was very strong. Didnt help he was cheating. However your success to some extent depends upon how the GB guy or girl plays his empire.

The major downside to RSA is you have an awful lot of territory to eat up that mostly contains nothing. One way of doing it is using Militia. Just set em loose once you get into the Belgian Congo and see them in N Africa in two weeks time!

Once you've cleared southern Africa most of your provinces are in west Africa.
    • Midway through day five:

As you can see, Portugal's African colonies have capitulated completely (apart from one province that rebelled), and I have begun an invasion of the Belgian Congo, while I have a couple of militia disembarking in Soalala, Madagascar, but not on the province dots. I'm going to invade the French Colonies after I have finished with the Congo.

To be perfectly honest, there's not a lot to update on apart from the levelling up of industry in all of my cities, and that I have risen to 12th in the standings.

Here's a screenshot of the rest of Africa:

As you can see, British Egypt has been overrun by Turkey, so I might try my backstab against Britain with Turkey instead. However, I am worried that Britain might just go inactive as soon as we invade, and I would then have to invade a much stronger Turkey.
