Do you upgrade transport ships? 15

        No I don't waste my money/time. (3) 20%

Yes but only on navy-oriented maps. (5) 33%

Sometimes depending on objectives and my location. (7) 47%
I have been testing resource allocation in upgrading transport ships in my overall strategy, I have been doing this for years. I only do this in my "fun maps" and not in competitive play.

The extra HP for each level is not worth the investment but the speed bonus is nice.

I am generally curious about what the general population thinks of this.
    • It's a massive waste of time. The navy in general is not very efficient to invest in, unless absolutely necessary. If you're going overseas then worry about winning naval battles instead of your transport ships. If you win the naval battles then it doesn't matter how fast or slow your transports go.

I myself don't upgrade transport ships there are more important things to upgrade.
If you upgrade your transport ships to be faster it will not help you against a waiting battle group or submarine when disembarking especially if you do not dominate the naval superiority.
I am currently at war with a player that is trying to invade me on a HWW map and I'm picking off his transport ships and navy with my naval bombers, subs and battleships

Both great points! Curious: Would you invest in transport ship levels if it lowered disembark/embark times?
    • @Tribunate if higher level transport ships could lower the times then yes I would invest. In the meantime a Port will have to do.
I also understand that Ports can not always be constructed in every coastal rural province because most players add armies and move to a single point off the coast and then continue, they will not move first to ports and then embark.
Also to upgrade a transport ship and expect it to embark/disembark faster with a port already as an availability makes me curious. The basis of a faster embarking/disembarking,is a "better" upgraded Port, getting on and off the ship but should higher level transport ships accommodate the times then yes they can remove the Port and just keep the transport ships.

(Come to think of it, maybe they should implement the following also...if we upgrade planes they should automatically refuel faster?)

Usually the game moves so quickly I don't have time to build ports to move armies. I typically invade, build production buildings in captured cities, make production there instead of moving units and placing ports everywhere.

This is very map dependent. If you're in a big war against an established continental power, you're bringing complete armies. The units are leveled up (or they level up shortly after landing) and they come in large numbers. You don't have time to mess around or you'll get smashed to pieces. The only units you can reasonably expect to build are level 1 militia, AT guns, or armored cars to quickly grab open land and slow down the opponent's counter-attack. How quickly you can cross the ocean, land, and deploy makes a huge difference. A good opponent will figure it out, and the less time you give them to prepare, the better. A few hours can be the difference between a successful landing ready to defeat the opponent's counter-attack, and an invasion force that gets smashed before it can disembark.

If you're fighting weak opponents, then it doesn't matter how you attack them, and the whole question is pointless. You'll win no matter how bad your plan is.
    • Upgrading transports is very useful on the world map when you do transcontinental invasions, they will save many hours of sailing time.
When the fake daddies are curtailed, we have failed. When their roller coaster tolerance is obliterated, their education funds are taken by Kazakhstani phishers, and their candy bars distributed between the Botswana youth gangs, we have succeeded.
