Anyone ever mention the fact that planes seem to be able to fly to the end of their flight radius and then back, however when they are flying to a new airfield they can only fly half of that distance before refueling?
To put it mathematically.
A plane flies from an airfield to bomb target city at the very edge of its flight radius. Lets say the flight radius is 500 miles. Your plane has flown there (500 miles) and back (500 more miles a total of 1000 miles) before it needed to refuel. However, if that plane needs to fly to an airfield that is 900 miles away it has to land after 500 miles to refuel.
Perhaps something that needs fixing?
