      This from someone who was the son of a child bombed out of their home by the Luftwaffe in Leeds Mar 13 1941. My mother detested the Germans and the barbarity these Japanese 'aliens' treated commonwealth PoW'S was beyond the pale having met emaciated survivors of the Nips. The way they acted in Nanking against the Chinese was abhorrent and they were largely like that everywhere they invaded. Funny Spielberg never did a film about that.
      So, if I’m understanding you correctly, it’s okay to inflict large civilian casualties on nations if they did/are doing the same? If that’s the case, should we drop some nukes on Russia because of their war crimes in Ukraine? Or China because of their internment camps in Xinjaing? Why should the lives of millions of people be compromised just because of one or two idiotic madmen?

      No, the German people voted for Hitler. They put him in power end of. It wasnt an army coup and he then 'deposed' the leader he was elected ffs.

      He then changed the electoral system but the people gave him the chance to do that.
      In 1932 (the last free election in pre-Nazi Germany), Hitler received only 36% of the vote.

      In Russia’s most recent “election”, Putin got over 90% of the vote.

      Clearly you see a difference there?

      The Japanese have deliberately gone out of their way NOT to offer any apologies to western nations particularly Britain, Australia and Netherlands for the war crimes carried out in the name of their Emperor and the Japanese people. They have made overtures to Korea and the Chinese. The still teach this crap in school falling to denounce what that generation did. We are all meant to feel sorry for them because of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, conveniently forgetting their own bestial behaviour that proceeded it. They started the far east war - they paid for it in part.

      No, I’m talking about the decades of oppressive rule by the American, British, Dutch, and French colonial empires that resulted in millions of deaths before the Japanese expanded.

      NOTE: I’m not downplaying or denying Japanese crimes. However, it’s unfair to treat them differently than other empires with similar if not worse human rights records.

      You struggle to get an apology out of them for anything from the rape of Nanking, the rape of females in Dutch East Indies and the bestial nature they treated British and Commonwealth PoW's. The only ones who come close are the Russians, but much as I wouldn't support them at least they (the Russians) had an excuse.

      No the Japanese were total scum which is why I have no respect for them whatsoever. And I didn't lose anyone as such in the Burmese/Japanese PoW camps. But I've watched enough and read about the suffering. Truly horrific.

      I don't blame the current generation but when you have brutalist leaders 'worshipped' in the Yasukuni shrine in Japan still, who were responsible for untold suffering on millions you cant forgive that.       First of all, everybody knows that the R@pe of Nanking was a staged attack by the Chinese Communists to make people afraid of the Japanese and enlist in the Communist army to fight the Nationalist Chinese. In China and elsewhere, we only killed people if we absolutely had to, and definitely didn’t run concentration camps like Germany, Russia, or heck the United States. By the way, do you know what the USA did to it’s Japanese citizens during the war?

      Japan’s objective in the war was to establish a “Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere”, which would have united the peoples of East Asia (including Japan, Korea, China, Indo-China, the Filipines, Indonesia, Burma, Malaya, and possibly India) under a common government that would advocate for our collective interests and protect the peoples of East Asia from colonialism and imperial empires.

      Furthermore, internees in Japanese POW camps were treated like royalty compared to the ones in Germany, Russia, and the USA. No forced labor, and no torture as long as you obeyed your orders.

      During the war, we fought and died for the Emperor. We did whatever the Emperor told us to do, which sometimes meant sacrificing our own lives. Several of my ancestors made the ultimate sacrifice for our Emperor and our Nation during the war.
