    • Ridiculous. Maybe age has to do with it. It is easy if you are now two generations from that era not to really feel the fear/hatred of Germans or understand that selecting a race of people and ideologically declaring them sub human and then proceeding to exterminate them is quite frankly abhorrent.

      I think on the whole Germans get a bad rap but I didnt/dont really get the logic of the Jewish hatred thing. It is hardly if they had formed a major political threat to the German state.

      No it was the German people. They voted for the NSDAP. Once in power Hitler manipulated the situation into a one party state. We dont refer to the USSR as the communists do we?     • Man your sense and understanding of politics is not exactly stellar. Hitlers party was voted in, Saddam Hussein's wasn't. And we never refer to Stalin's USSR do we? Oh no. As for Africa, yeah since when have we had a democratic leader elected there? It is predominantly about one party states or should that be majority tribal one party states.

      No, Germany as a country term get away with it lightly. Always referred to as Nazi Germany as if the NSDAP were parachuted in as the advance guard from Skyro and the German people had nothing to do with it. The whitewashing of the Germans goes on, but not half as much as the whitewashing plus of the Japs. Perhaps if the Americans had had hundreds of thousands butchered at the hands of these monsters they might have acted differently. No it was all about getting US companies contracts to rebuild Japan with the subtle backdrop of a bulwark against communism.

      As for Trump. Absolutely, if the Yanks vote him in then they are to blame for whatever ensues. The guy is a very real loon tune. The trouble is half the US want a Republican, that's fine but Trump is no Republican he is his own party - Trumpian.

      For reference, only about 36% of the Germans voted for Hitler. Doesn't seem large enough to hold the entire German population accountable.

      Of course, in countries that don't/didn't have democratic elections, the measuring stick is entirely different. Should the entire population be held responsible if they didn't overthrow the tyrant? This discussion can go on and on...

      Only in despotic countries like Russia, China, Zimbabwe, Belorussia do you get 90%+ voting for 'the leader'. In Britain a minority of people voted for this awful Labour rabble, but it it is how first past the post works here. Bet you it was a lot lower than those who voted for Hitler !

      No, the German people voted for Hitler. They put him in power end of. It wasnt an army coup and he then 'deposed' the leader he was elected ffs.

      He then changed the electoral system but the people gave him the chance to do that.

      You struggle to get an apology out of them for anything from the rape of Nanking, the rape of females in Dutch East Indies and the bestial nature they treated British and Commonwealth PoW's. The only ones who come close are the Russians, but much as I wouldn't support them at least they (the Russians) had an excuse.

      No the Japanese were total scum which is why I have no respect for them whatsoever. And I didn't lose anyone as such in the Burmese/Japanese PoW camps. But I've watched enough and read about the suffering. Truly horrific.

      I don't blame the current generation but when you have brutalist leaders 'worshipped' in the Yasukuni shrine in Japan still, who were responsible for untold suffering on millions you cant forgive that. Not in my book. Amazing they bleat on about Hiroshima/Nagasaki but conveniently forget they started it. Whilst referring to Germany Sir Arthur Harris' words were never more apt or appropriate than to the Japanese.

      Where you were born
      Ethnicity/skin colour.

      When you've travelled around the world a bit particularly sampling cultures diametrically opposite to your own you realise we are all pretty much the same.

      Have respect till somebody clearly breaches the rules. Most folks on here are great.

      There was a racist on here a few weeks ago who wished NATO bombed Yugoslavia more. This comment sounds awfully similar to that.
      Mr B, dont know where you are from or how old you are but the actual awfulness of the Japanese to their 'victims' be they civilian or military was just so bad they deserved everything they got and more. I suggest you read your history, which clearly you have not.

      I will say it again I wished they'd dropped more A bombs on Japan. Though I have no family directly affected by them I can never forgive the total bestiality of these bastards. Christianity goes out of the window with them. They deserved to be burned alive.

      A good book to read is Blood and the Bushido. Details how horrible these people were at sea. Torpedoing wasnt good enough. Any survivors machined gunned in the water or put on the submarine and drowned as the sub dived. Yeah nice people the Japanese. Almost makes the Waffen SS appear part timers.

      This from someone who was the son of a child bombed out of their home by the Luftwaffe in Leeds Mar 13 1941. My mother detested the Germans and the barbarity these Japanese 'aliens' treated commonwealth PoW'S was beyond the pale having met emaciated survivors of the Nips. The way they acted in Nanking against the Chinese was abhorrent and they were largely like that everywhere they invaded. Funny Spielberg never did a film about that.
