  • No matter what way you look at it the German army was the superior force that fell to the shear numbers of the allied troops and bad calls made by higher up. They where proven in battle time and time again. And not to mention that they had batter tanks than all of the other nations, also they fell to the lack of an air force the german air force was not able to keep up and once the americans started to bomb Germany they couldn't felid as much fighters as the allies and due to most of there aces lost dunning the battle of Britain. And look at the industrial might of the Soviet union and the United States, they couldn't keep up with that. And know that if the germans had a good supply of oil they would have took Moscow and also not have to water down the gas ( leading to it freezing in the cold Russian winter) but if you look at the numbers the germans killed about 2 for every 1 solider compared to the Russians. so to come down to it they fell to bad command, not efficient supplies, lack of air superiority, and lack of industrial might. The german army was better than the Russians and the soviets knew it. I mean look at the numbers the germans murdered them in each battle they fought in. Heres a picture of the 2nd ss panzer in battle one of the most feared in the war.

Fantastic, my generals. You both have a good sense of history. ;)

Of course they would. It would probably take them just a little longer. It is not just numbers that won the war , but the Russian spirit. One house in Stalingrad held out longer than the all of Europe combined ...

By the way, do you know how many French soldiers does it take to defend Paris?)
Soviets only did as well as they did cos of the americans...

you really trying to tell me they had good spirt?
was this when the had one gun for 2 men?
    or when they were starving..

Germans had the best fighting spirt, and were the best army..
just had poor leader combined with a strong enemy on one side.. and another enemy just throwing fodder...

    Agree

just want to add, that another issue was the fact that a lot of the AA units were under the command of Goering and the luftwaffa and were not spread around to defend priorty targets, EG factories..

    Agree hugely with you do

  • So the majority of players, believe that the German army was the best of the second world war.

"I came, I saw, I conquered" Written in a report to Rome 47 B.C., after conquering Pharnaces at Zela in Asia Minor in just five days; as quoted in Life of Caesar by Plutarch; reported to have been inscribed on one of the decorated wagons in the Pontic triumph, in Lives of the Twelve Caesars, Julius, by Suetonius.

  • You all fell to post-war anti-Soviet propaganda that has made many people think Communists are child-eating, woman killing monsters, which is of course untrue. By the way, how many of you are professional historians? None of you? Oh well, can't be a proper conclusion.

Anyway, the British were not the second best either, that was the Americans. British tanks were crap and nearly any tank they sent to France was either destroyed or left behind.

Irrelevant. The Soviets killed the most Germans, that is what counts. They also made the greatest advances and captured the capital alone in 17 days, which is a feat in and of itself, on top of fewer casualties and what Wikipedia says was a "decisive Soviet victory".

What is it if not spirit that Russian had, when you have only one gun for two or three people and you still KEEP ON FIGHTING to the end, while also starving. ? That is the spirit I was talking about.

"Soviets only did as well as they did cos of the americans..." ??? How is that? the lend-lease program really only accounted for about 3-4% of military machinery Soviets used .

I know that in American schools is taught USA won the war and was the main contributor to Germany's defeat, but it is the furthest thing from the truth. USSR destroyed 85%-90% of all german armies. That is the FACT. USA only started fighting land battles against Germany in 1943-44, when Germans were already in retreat on the Eastern front or just about to. The main reason Western front was opened in the mid 1944, was so USSR would not take over the whole Europe. USSR would have finished Germans by themselves at that point, it was inevitable.

back to the spirit. "By the way, do you know how many French soldiers does it take to defend Paris?)"
the answer is " Nobody knows , as they never tried" :)))
All European countries surrendered within days, some weeks, and only a few in couple of months. Britain was just very lucky to be on the island, otherwise it would have been overrun in a matter of weeks as well. Leningrad alone was blockaded and bombarded for over 900 days , millions starved to death, but nobody even thought of surrendering the city. German spirit was nowhere near of the Russians, as it was very high after easy victories in Europe, but was broken just few months after they made a mistake of invading USSR.

    Sad thing is, he's Irish.

The Soviets did have spirit alright. Just look at how long encircled troops lasted for. Often, when Germans tried to take a position, they had to kill every Soviet soldier.

Well, in my history textbook (I'm Irish too) it seems fairly unbiased and if it does lean anywhere, it leads to the "power" of the "Blitzkrieg", which, funnily enough, does not exist and was not a new idea at the time.
