I hesitate to report this one, since I benefited from it, but ...
I was just flying a mixed bombing mission with 2 tacs and 3 interceptors, just at the moment the bombers reached their target (5 seconds before executing their attack) the entire squadron magically returns to home base! Instead of the bombing run you see in the final 5 seconds, I saw the landing graphic instead. I then checked to see whether the attack had actually taken place and indeed it had. Basically the game skipped the entire return to base leg, which saved me a nifty 18 minutes or so!
