    • What happens when oil consumption exceeds production?

What happens when a country's oil consumption exceeds its oil production? I've seen what happens when food consumption exceeds food production: morale plummets quickly, and provinces begin revolting and defecting to other countries, even the enemy country. What is the analog for mass oil shortages? Do oil-consuming units begin to stop, wink out of existence, or suffer damage?

I need a definitive answer; this may significantly impact my end game strategy.
    • Yes, they do. Along with that comes docks closing down, oil using machines crapping out, and havoc. You have to manage your oil. :)

    • Yes, I know to manage my oil and food consumption and to maintain some kind of reserves for negative contingencies. I'm participating in a game where one of the opponents is dangerously over-extended in his oil use -- no slack whatsoever -- and is completely maxed out. As I said, this will have an impact on my end game strategy.
    • No, an oil shortage will not affect your active units, but it will stop you from producing more.

    • I've had long running oil and food shortages. They only affect your morale and what you can build.
Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.
      -Winston Churchill

Attack rapidly, ruthlessly, viciously, without rest, however tired and hungry you may be, the enemy will be more tired, more hungry. Keep punching.
      -George S. Patton

Yes, my Heavy Tanks ran out morale even when not being attacked, and disappeared after a few days. I know, trust me.

    • All my oil units started to go. It's hard to build oil units due to that fact.

    • thats incorrect carl...

if you run out of oil.. this will happen

      • lower moral
      • lack of ability to produce units requiring oil
      these have knock on effects..
for example provinces will rebel.. and production of other res will fall due to lower moral..

but your units will still operate no bother...

Thank you, oceanhawk. The only way to lose oil-consuming units is if a province that is occupied by the aforementioned unit successfully rebels.
