I was teaching about the second wold war to one of my classes a few months ago, it was a hot Friday afternoon and nobody could be bothered to do any work- including me- so I decided to play a documentary about the battle for control of the Atlantic between the Allies and the Axis. This got me thinking, how would a "battle of the Atlantic" scenario work? Here's how.
2 teams.
Allies
Great Britain
USA
Axis
Germany
Italy?
map style.
The map is focused around the Atlantic ocean with very little landmass, perhaps the US East coast, French and Germna west coasts and then great Britain split into say, 5 provinces?
team compositions.
Allies: The allied countries (USA and GB) would have ships akin to their comparative strength come 1941 so both would have a lot of surface warships such as battleships, cruisers and destroyers (Carriers less much because the US had theirs in the pacific and GB in the Mediterranean) They would also have a large aerial patrol fleet of naval bombers.
Axis: This team would have a lot more in the way of submarines (Germany especially) and a smaller surface fleet compared to the Allies, Italy was fighting primarily in the Mediterranean and Germany had cancelled plans for a large surface fleet in favour of Submarines. They would also have a large aerial patrol fleet of naval bombers.
Play style:
Allies:
An objective for the Allies could be to get a certain number of supplies to GB, not sure how to implement that bit just yet, from USA using their naval forces as an escort.
Axis: The Axis can attempt to sink the supplies that the Allies are transporting over.
Extra: Each supply ship is worth points, the Axis get the points if they sink it, the allies if it arrives in GB.
To make the game like this each team cannot simply build land forces and invade the other team's territory land forces, except aircraft cannot be built, preventing an early rush.
P.S This post is open to additional content and help sorting out the rough edges. If anyone does not like it I suggest you say why.
